The largest open space on the Plowshare, the Habitat is built for research requiring a simulated natural environment. Research into animal behavior or livestock husbandry are both supported, as well as study of trees, wild flowers, and native grasses. Large standpipes provide storage for mineral water. Research terminals allow access to the central computer to log study data.

Four substantial armored portholes are built into the hull. Integrated viewing platforms allow observation of local environment, weather, and animal migration patterns.

This deck includes two large airlocks for personnel and equipment transfer. As with the inspection hatches on the quarterdeck, a phased-power gangway is incorporated into the design, suitable for use with CGS-SPEC-963(A) standard docking facilities.
Lighting is provided through a bi-directional grid of high-powered lights. Recessed lighting in the floor provides even task lighting for research. The overhead track lighting illuminates the room evenly and provides maintenance access to the upper reaches of the deck.
The Captain of the Plowshare has authorized the placement of two picnic tables for use by the crew.
Lab & Production
A large botanical laboratory deck provides the environment and equipment for thorough research on crops. Four planting beds are designed to allow inspection of root systems and to monitor water supply. The current CGS-1337 research program is focused on a strain of hybrid melons. No changes in crop phenotype have been observed after several generations; the research team is continuing to monitor this strain of melons over time.

Maintenance access to the mineral water system is through hatches next to the four large standpipes. The production area in the center of the deck has four configurable pads to support research and development, food preparation, or livestock handling requirements. It also houses the teleporters to the upper decks and a ladder to the reactor control room. The CGS-1337 has three areas dedicated to equipment production and storage, plus one Chizzard pen.
In support of food production or research crop development, a series of Rapid Planting Matrix blueprints is available in Wheat, Turnip, Lettuce, and Melon variants.
Reactor & Drives
The main reactor deck (plus “Deck 0” in the crawlspace below the reactor control room) provides power for the Galactic Sparkle Drive and further ship operations. The Cyclo-modal Corruption Reactor is divided into four quadrants, which is not only ideal for the Plowshare’s four drive nacelles, but is also safer than the much larger first-generation corruption reactors.

The Galactic Sparkle Drive units themselves are surprisingly small for the amount of power they put out. The system as installed on the Plowshare may appear over-specified at first, but the size and quality of the installation results in fewer unscheduled maintenance incidents. Because of this, the Plowshare requires fewer engineering crew than is typical on a cruiser of this size.

The CGS-1337 shakedown voyage was completed recently and feedback from the shakedown crew incorporated into the final design. The Plowshare is fully commissioned and crew selection for the first full mission profile is in progress. Plowshare ship and supplemental blueprints are now available through the appropriate channels for interested research organizations.
