Looking For an AI Mod - Any Advice?
Hello.

I am looking for a mod that increases the AI difficulty only by giving it artificial boosts to economy and growth and public order and the like, yet doesn't give them the usual hyper-aggressive nature that makes them perform suicide attacks against you in ways that make them lose, simply to spite you as the player.

I have played mainly only on Normal difficulty in this game so far, with about 50 hours played. I have since just started a campaign with some mods installed, and have been continuing to have fun.

I attempted to play on Hard difficulty twice, and both times I did, the AI responded by (I was playing as Wintertooth) completely ignoring my army, running away from it and not defending its cities, and going all the way around the map to sack my cities even as I wiped out their entire faction. In the end, they basically just suicided against my cities and were more keen to declare war on me for no reason, and that's not ideal.

On Normal difficulty however, the AI simply doesn't have enough forces by a bit to be (generally) a good enough challenge. So I'm wondering: is there an AI mod that keeps the "cheating" bonuses of the AI, yet removes the ridiculous change in AI priorities on higher difficulties that causes them to perform ludicrously stupid suicide attacks against you?

I just installed the Radious mod, which may affect the AI in this way - so if anyone knows if that is the case, please let me know. I have seen AI mods which "remove" cheating, but given that removing cheating does not remove the core problem of them behaving completely irrationally on difficulties above normal in terms of self-preservation, I don't want that at all. I want quite the opposite, in fact - I want to keep the cheating in, but remove the suicidal tendencies.

I'm not aware of any mods that do this, but it's actually very easy to do this yourself so you can pick the values you want. If you're interested I can give you a quick tutorial.

If this is true, I will look into doing some modding of my own at some point further down the line. Perhaps sometime well into the release of Warhammer II, assuming that the AI hasn't been tweaked by then to fix what I perceive as the issue.

Thank you for your reply.

Well, in any case; the AI's bonuses are all stored in the table "campaign_difficulty_handicap_Effects", which also stores the bonuses or penalties the player gets. It's done a little oddly in that instead of listing the difficulty level it gives a number, and the numbers meaning seems to change depending on whether or not it's a human effect. Seems to be that for ones effecting the human it's "high number means lower difficulty" and the opposite for the AI. So for the human, 1=easy, 0=normal, -1=hard, -2=Very Hard, -3=legendary. The AI uses the opposite--3 is legendary and -1 is easy.

Bit late, but if you do happen to read this - where exactly is that file located? I can't find it anywhere on my computer, even with hidden files being exposed.

Considering making a mod for Warhammer II at one point or another that does what I need it to do, since all I want to mod is relatively minor. Since I want a difficulty where the AI gets the same bonuses as usual (well, at least gets bonuses to how many armies it can build and how much money it has), yet not one where I have an arbitrary - 8 to control or such. Being forced to deal with constant rebellions without spending way too much time building +control structures isn't very fun to me, after all. I prefer greater difficulty in that the AI is more deadly, and that's about it.

Of course, I may end up not needing to do so, but any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

The tables need to be edited either with the official tools or with Pack File Manager--they're not simple text files like the older Total War games.

I know that they need to be edited with a special program, I did install Pack File Manager in fact just to be able to do so if needed.

However, if I can't find the file to edit in question, then there's not much I can do.

Just now I managed to find the file I believe you were talking about. Campaign_difficulty_handicap_effect_tables -> data_core

Had to unpack the data file and search through the lists, so no wonder I couldn't find it through my operating system search.

Of course, figuring out how I would want to edit everything is its own job, as is figuring out how I could possibly package doing so as a mod rather than accidentally messing up the base game installation. I'll look into it again later, thanks for the help.

Was looking into modding for TW and I can't even seem to find the FPM.

Anyone give me a hand?
