welcome to the world of banished, my child.

This game is about trial and error. if you are new, you will go through many villages, trying to find the balance that works for your little people.

and remember, food and health are top priority.

good luck!

Adult children will not have kids themselves unless they can move into a house of their own to form a new couple.

Keep an eye on the age of people in the houses. "Kids" become adults and can move out at 10 if you do not have a school.
If you have a school, Students can move out from their parents to form a new couple with an adult. They turn adult once they finish school, which is anything between 15 and 23, depending mostly on house-school distance (they need to do a certain number of "work units" in school, so go back and forth between that "job" and their house like anyone else).

People stop having kids around 40. I think women can have kids up to 41, and a tiny bit older (43 or 45?) for men, so don't wait too long to provide new houses, or you might get new couples of people too old to have more than one kid.
Make sure you don't build too many houses either. If you don't have adult kids ready to move out, don't build or you'll risk splitting existing couples, which can make the birth rate drop too.

If you have a townhall, you the statistics for the number of houses and number of potential families on the first page. Except during the very first few years when I want a lot more workers fast, I try to keep those on a 2/3 or 3/4 ratio.

Plenty of quirky little "details" in how the AI works in this game. Things that can seem totally weird make sense once you get used to them. Good luck! :)

Yup. Next tricky thing, getting a steady and growing food supply. Each person (yes, even that 0 yo kid) eats 100 units of food a year. It's considered "safe" to have about 1 year's worth of food in advance in storage, so peopel don't waste time going through all your barns to find enough scraps of food to refill their personnam fod stores at home!

(Walking distances are super important. More time spent walking = less time spent working and producing food!)
