In Depth Modding
I want to get heavily into modding this title, I wish to mod everything from textures to audio, I understand this will not be easy & may take some time but I see allot of low grade mods that do not function or cause crashing & I wish to negate all of these & create some serious level community content!
I find the current editing console (Storyteller) lacking in any sort of detail as far as what specific things do as there is a huge void of detail's about any functions inside the editor (Storyteller). I have figured quite a few thing's out but would like any detail's (whether from other community content creators or 11 Bit Studios themselves) regarding a full breakdown of detail's when looking for what map's are called in the editor (as they are a little confusing) & also what are all the different "Kosovo" references in the editor actually referring to?
I would also like some input on texture mapping ie what size & format's are applicable, as I say I wan't to go quite in depth & create some serious community content to compete & push 11 Bit Studios own content to it's limit!

Any real help with any or all of the above would be greatly appreciated!

Unfortunately, with the way the mod tools currently are, you are not going to be able to do alot of what you just mentioned. Many have tried, many have failed. So many things are basically hardcoded into the game and not accessable via the mod tools that the options you have for creating mods is quite limited.

Also, why not start with the 'modding instructions' pdf in the install directory. That will atleast tell you what the maps are.

The devs have seemed to have moved on from this game onto their new game, so I wouldn't expect any real changes from the mod tools from them. What we have now, is likely to be all we will get.

Yeah I totally understand the limitations of Storyteller & ModTools in their current state but I'm quite willing to grab any software used in creating TWoM & delve fully into it... Either way maybe I'll contact 11 Bit & see if they can help me with any of this?

They haven't moved on, they are releasing new content still & more planned throughout 2018, surely this is a sign that 11 Bit Studios are still active with TWoM & intend on continued improvements accross the board!? Hopefully this will include game modifications also!

Good luck with that! I was thinking the same thing a year ago about making some serious mods for TWoM and learned a lot how the tools work.

Unfortunately, most textures and locations are locked out, and can't be accessed or edited like with other games. For example, character models can be extracted but not edited with the modding tools; Only their portraits, names and backstory can. I made a chart of all the characters in the game files here: https://i.imgur.com/RKWoTZ3.jpg

And for more basic tweaking, you could check out this post: link
It wasn't updated in a while but I just added the first story dlc locations.

Apart from some story dlc and bug fixes, they are pretty much done with the game. Barely anything has changed as far as modding and the modding tools since they were released. I wouldn't hold out too much hope.

As much as I would like them to allow for more extensive modding, it is unlikely at this point. I have been in contact with them a number of times and basically, modding is the last thing on their mind at this time. They are having a hard enough time trying to squash all the bugs that keep coming up.

@Kierk thank's for the feedback & links, I will be tracking down the software engine 11 Bit used for this (if it exists) to delve slightly deeper! Surely this is a title worth it's weight & therefore need's tools that have access to all of the necessary game-data including textures, mapping, motion, wrapping & sound!? Maybe if I can get my hands on the core engine used these things will become an available resource? Also cheer's for the link's I've sussed out most of the basics, will soon have a look at adding custom tool's but am still a little unclear whether the .bin file issue has been resolved as I dont fancy having to Hex just yet hahah who know's if the files I would need to gain access to will be within my reach!?

@Karate Kid that's such a shame for TWoM legacy, it has always fealt like one of those title's that actually requires longevity... I hope they do iron out the rest of the bug's & keep this title alive + introduce some form of in-depth modding tool's/tool! I would love to be able to re-skin characters & re-paint landscapes as I could constuct some truly deep fictional stories for this. I feel having an entirely fictional section to TWoM would keep players interested & involved + also bring new players onboard keeping this beautiful title alive for many year's to come!

I'll keep digging, maybe I'll email someone at 11 Bit or get a few team members names & harass on facebook haha

The devs indirectly gave us new mod possibilities with their last dlc. Simple things like linking a scenario to a specific shelter or map pack for example wasn't even possible before. So who knows what they will add in the next two dlcs.

List of features they added with Father's Promise:
- make memory hole (scripted event)
- link map pack and shelter to scenario
- disable sleep/guard on specific days
- prevent robbers from stealing certain items
- unlock locations using the radio
- and some new unused triggers (not working, could be used to trigger scripted events)

I've been looking this evening & have seen a video with a few bits of software used within it & interestingly I'm familiar with all them, it's not a big deal that they originally scanned in real people as this wouldn't matter in creation phase for any new characters but... Will matter when it comes to running it all in debug mode after placing data in Hex which I'd rather not have to do at all, as Hex is looooong!!! If they open up the current access the Storyteller.exe has via ModKit then I could effectively add new skins to new additional strings within the code!? Either way I'm going to find out if this is a single engine game or multi engine, maybe one of the devs could let me know!?

As you can tell I would love to mod the absolute mess out of this thing ;)

Devs, please release the source code for the game.

They fully abandoned all of us... Don't expect anything from them!
