working with .dds files in linux

HI there,

I currently try to get involved in modding and after reading much and messing around with the tools I stumbled over the textures. I don't own Photoshop and my most powerful PC runs linux. So I installed GIMP and to my surprise, it can't open .dds files. I searched the internet for a plugin and found one from 2013, which does not work for me. It tells me, it supports gimp up to 2.4.x, but my Gimp is 2.8.x.

So anyone here running linux and some software able to modify .dds files anyhow? Please? ;)
