The mode tag is automatically applied when the map is uploaded with the mode selected in the editor. If the author didn't select which mode the map was made for, then that's the author's fault, not the game's or the workshop's, the same could be said for any map uploaded with the default name "Untitled" - the author has to care enough to set a name and mode if they want it to be played in arcade. So IMO any map that doesn't have a mode selected is probably not a good enough map to warrant playing it in the first place.
*sigh* You never know, though. Some random schmuck might create something really awesome in their spare time, and we don't get to play it because they didn't assign a ****ing mode to it.
Still the odds of finding an actually half-decent level under those conditions are even worse than Sturgeon's Law would typically suggest, aren't they?
If you really want to try out a track that hasn't had a mode assigned to it, post a mesage on the workshop page and the person who built it will probably fix it.
Still, it would be nice if the upload button would give a warning if no mode is selected, even if it lets you ignore the message and upload anyway.
