Looked into this mod. The fact you have any interest in it is truly disgusting and says a lot about you.

Its an interesting event in history and I wanted to see if the mod was really that bad. You act like its a mod about school shootings or something lmao, get off your high horse, its no worse than running down civilians in GTA.

If you want to know about the history pick up a book. This mod was banned for the exact reason that it distorted history to make the victims the aggressors.

It had you play as the aggressors, in a event where there were in fact armed civilians who fought back, so its not like the mods is really "distorting history" in any significant way. It was banned because the event was a national embarrassment for south korea and they dont want it publicized on a popular platform like steam. It seems like youre just looking for reasons to be upset by this, if you aren't korean its not even a controversial event in history.

No the governments claimed the students were violent rioters. Which has since been proven to be untrue. They were protestors that were gun downed by the hundreds from an order of the government.
To say it isn't a controversial event is just straight ignorant.

So you're saying we should not allow to adapt the horrible/tragic events through any medias? If that's the case, then we should all ban games that are based on WW2 and Vietnam Wars.

What? You are completely missing the point.
>What? You are completely missing the point.

It does related to censorship from what I'm aware of.
The South Korean government is so insecure they feel the need to remove a mod from a 14 year old turkish game.

Educate yourself. The mod is making the protesters the bad guys, claiming they were armed rioters. Which they were not.

Literally you just play as the army, in a event where historically there were in fact armed protesters, which is a recognized fact even by south Koreans. You are making assumptions that are untrue based on a single news article.

There were in fact, armed protestors with BAR's and M1 carbines and captured military equipment. But only because the military was unloading belts of 7.62x51 NATO on them before. They had to defend themselves. Anyway, I speak Korean natively, and tried to look for their claims about how the now deleted mod was 'distorting the history'. There were no detailed descriptions of how or why it was deemed so. Apart from their very basic announcement there were none. From what I see, this sets a dangerous predecent of all mods and content on Steam being a subject of censorship by governments across the world.

Also have to disagree with this analysis, the current administration led by liberals has nothing to lose from the publicization of event that happened 40 years ago, on a place like Steam. And the ROK government is infamously tone deaf in the matter of media literacy, they promoted or promoting medias like Gangnam Style, Parasite, Squid Game using their tax payer wons when they are all very critical of the current Korean society and its darker side. They don't care. What we're seeing here, is some motivated individual from a local NGO (directly related to the actual victims of the incident) getting very lucky to pass through all those bureaucratic hurdles to make our government act on their will. That's all.

Please provide links for this. I have found nothing saying the protesters were armed. If evidence is presented I am always willing to admit I am wrong.

"In response, some protesters raided the Reserve Force armories and police stations in nearby towns, arming themselves with M1 rifles and M1/M2 carbines. The militias also started to exercise caution against perceived North Korean provocateurs and raised placards reading "Don't misjudge, Northerners" (Korean: 북괴는 오판말라).[31][29] Later that afternoon, gunfights between civilian militias and the army broke out in the Provincial Office Square. By 5:30 p.m., the militias had acquired two light machine guns and used them against the army, forcing them to retreat from the downtown area."

Literally from Wikipedia. There are a TON of photos just from one Google search away. Like the other guy said. It's not the fact that they took arms that's controversial. It is all well known fact here in Korea. The controversy comes from the alt right nonsensical claims of those armed citizens being an agents of the DPRK(that's what the regime said at the time).
