You could try my Dundee A906 workshop sub if you want something you can do your own improvements to, it comes with just the essentials:

Or you could try my Yellow Submarine, very similar concept. Or, if you fancy a challenge (and I mean a challenge!) go for The Rusty Sow! You will need to know some wiring for that one though.
I try to make my subs Tier 2 so that they can be taken all the way through to the end, Tier 1 can't have the upgrades necessary for depth requirements in the later campaign stages I think.
If you want a challenge then, as I said in my previous post, give my Rusty Sow a try! It has some... quirks. I'm currently playing this in my solo campaign (as the starting sub) and intend to take it as far as I can, just reached the end of the Cold Caverns and things are going OK so far, added a few special modifications (circuits) to smooth things along a bit.
