Wiring best practices?
More in terms of avoiding lag/issues than layout; as per usual I get way into the weeds on making one (1) thing very fancy, further modified by my lack of skill and just kludging things together till they work, and I end up pulling back to look at a circuit box that is near the component limit and only controls eight lights and go "hrm, I hope that's alright".

Just wondering what is too much for lag concerns/etc, specific components/combinations to avoid, is it better to tuck everything away in circuit boxes or have it free floating, etc? Or can the game just handle absolute piles of hidden wiring without noticeable issue?

In terms of compute power requirements I doubt it makes any difference whether wiring and components are in a circuit box or on a wall, it's just a visual thing and components / wires should not be affected by the physics engine (when the sub gets bumped, flooded, etc). Maybe a tiny % GPU performance needed to render the wires instead of one single circuit box, probably so insignificant that nobody would notice it even on a low end graphics card.

Just keep an eye on the lighting and object count, those are the things that will chug your CPU.
