Does the game become unstable with too many custom objects?

I have about 10 customizations activated in Portal 2, things like a light bridge skin or a custom portal gun. I have the feeling that with another one the game tends to crash. This happened two times with different extra customizations I tried, with one of them being used years ago, so the file is alright. I had to redo the "dlc" folders and this time I put it last, that's it.

It's a crash to desktop without any note from the game. Portal 2 is just shutting down.

Can anybody confirm this or give me an advice what could be the issue?

sometimes portal 2 exhibits instability if you have too many workshop maps subscribed or too many dlc folders. i also have a guide on an alternative way to mount custom content that i've never experienced instability with:

its meant primarily for mappers but the same principals work for casual addon installation.
