Issue Adding a Mod From Github
I'm having some issues adding a mod from github. I added it to the C:\Users\MyName\Zomboid\mods folder and the file structure looks like this:

Modname with media folder, mod.info, poster.png
inside media is lua, scripts, sound, textures folders and sandbox-options.txt
inside lua is client, server, shared folders and inside them is their respective lua files
inside the scripts, sound, textures folders is their respective files.

When I'm in the main menu and go to the mods it doesn't show up so I decided to try to add it to the workshop and just make it private to see if that would fix it.

That file structure looks like this:

Modname with Contents folder, preview.png, workshop.txt
Inside contents folder is mods folder
Inside mods folder is modname folder
inside modname folder is media folder, mod.info, poster.png, preview.png
inside media is lua, scripts, sound, textures folders and sandbox-options.txt
inside lua is client, server, shared folders and inside them is their respective lua files
inside the scripts, sound, textures folders is their respective files.

When I go into the workshop in the main menu of the game and go to create and update items, select the mod and hit next, I get an error saying "Your mod is missing a mod.info file. It does have the mod.info file but for some reason its not detecting it. I'm pretty sure I have the file structure mirrored to the example mod file structure but I'm guessing its wrong since they both give the same error.

I also watched "Full Project Zomboid Mod Tutorial - Start to Finish" on youtube and I'm pretty sure my file structure matches his. So I can only guess that they changed how the structure needs to be?

Anyone got any ideas on how or what I need to change to get it to work?

B41 or B42?

I ask because that's exactly how a B41 mod should be working, but B42 mods are structured a bit differently.

B42, yeah i figured. I thought the file structure from the mod was incorrect and changed it initially. The way it downloaded was main folder, modname folder with a license.md and a readme.md, then a folder called 42, then the media and mod.info and poster file. I guess the 42 folder is the new part. I tried deleating the first folder and removing the 42 folder and putting its contents in the 42 folder. No luck on all 3 testing so idk.
At Workshop/ModName/Contents/mods/ModName

You'll need to have three folders.
42
common
media

Copy your original media folder inside 42, and you can leave both "common" and "media" completely empty at the step before. The only thing you'd need to have both in "42" and "media" are custom AnimSets. Also put your mod.info and poster.png inside 42.

That should do it.

I just wana make sure I understand correctly, this is what I did at this point:

C:\Users\MyName\Zomboid\Workshop\Smoke Flares\Contents\RA Smoke Flares\

Inside that folder I added 2 folders common and media both are empty, folder 42 is also there. Inside 42 is the media folder, mod.info and poster.png and inside the media folder is all the lua and important folders.

Is that right? Also I'm not sure what AnimSets are. I haven't really dove into making my own mods yet. Been wanting to make a mod to be able to craft the energy drink mod drinks. But thats later, need to figure out the folder structure first lol.
Correct. Also have the mod.info and poster.png at C:\Users\MyName\Zomboid\Workshop\Smoke Flares\Contents\RA Smoke Flares\

I added them there and its saying "there is no preview.png file in the folder you chose. I opened in gimp and it is 256x256 so its not the size, is it supposed to be somewhere else also?
preview.png goes in C:\Users\MyName\Zomboid\Workshop\Smoke Flares

Ok, moved it there, getting "There are unrecognized folders in your Contents/ folder. Lol

Just realized I didn't have the mods folder in the contents then the modname folder in that. Seems to be working now. Thanks so much for the help!

Also if anyone is interested in using the random air drops smoke flares. I'll make sure this works and make it public since no one has uploaded it yet.

Just to follow up on this, I realized there was already a smoke flare built into the original mod. When I was testing it though I was getting errors on the mod I imported from Github. The error was something to do with the air drops not having anything in them, but decided to not pursue it any further. Though the zombie horde was working in it, just food for thought if anyone comes across this and wants to mess with it, you can find the mod I'm talking about if you go to the github page of the original author of the air drop mod and look for the smoke flare addon.
Check the wiki for file structure.
