GI Solver problems
The GI solver only outputs very low resolution light maps for me. Here is a screenshot[i.imgur.com] of a very simple test map with baked lightmaps in the Talos Principle Editor and here is a screenshot[i.imgur.com] of an identical map in SS3 Editor. As you can see, the talos one is only something like a 16x16 texture, while the other shows the full 512x512 pixels, as i have set it in the lightmap option (this corresponds to what is rendered in-game of course, it's not just the preview).
This is likely related to some GI solver problems that I'm having; the editor crashes almost every single time I after it's done baking the lightmaps. When I reopen the editor after it crashed, I can import the solution, but the results are low-resolution like you can see in the screenshot above.
Here are the logfile of the GI solver[mega.co.nz] and the logfile for serious editor[mega.co.nz]. I opened the map from above, baked lightmaps (didn't crash on the first time, but showed errors in the console), baked again and the editor crashed.

Note these lines:
19:54:56 ERR: Cannot open file Content/Talos/Levels/Lightmaps/xana_lightmaptest3_Page00_dynamic--Big.rsc 19:54:56 ERR: Error reading big resource 𿁁𿁁Talos/Levels/Lightmaps/xana_lightmaptest3_Page00_dynamic--Big.rsȡ
I guess it looks for some parts of the lightmap that was never created due to the GI solver crashing or something along those lines.

Also note that this map is just a minimal example of the problem, I get the same result with any other map, including the one I uploaded to the workshop (although that one doesn't show any lightmaps at all despite me baking them; importing the solution works, but it looks like crap due to the low resolution).

This looks as if it loads only the streaming proxies (16x16), not the full lightmap atlas pages. What's up with those two junk ASCII characters in the second line you pasted? Looks like some kind of damage in the file...

I get these errors with junk characters in all levels after i have baked the lightmaps and reopened the level, and these page files that they attempt to access don't get created in the Lightmaps folder, only the <levelname>.rsc files is in there.

So... do you have any ideas how to solve this problem? I'd really get the lightmaps to work in my map.

Hmm weird. It is pretty much a norm in Talos for some reason, that the editor is looking for these "page" files that doesn't exist; I don't think that's the problem, because if it was, no lightmap would be working in the game.

However, I can't really say that I encountered your problem before, hmm.

They don't exist for your maps too? I just assumed that would be the problem since they're there for the official maps.

I even tried copying over the GISolver from SS3 since that one works for me, but - as one would expect - it refused to use it ;)

I really have no idea what those page files are. My maps doesn't show them as missing anymore... but I noticed that the lightmaps are just as blurry for me as for yours... I never checked/noticed... huh.

Alen, I think we have to test this out and report it.

Please do. I would appreciate a repro case, as the description doesn't ring a bell for me at all. It doesn't make any sense, as everything works for us, so it is probably some specific case where this happens.
xana 1 23 Mar, 2015 @ 4:24pm
At least for me, it isn't specific at all. It doesn't matter if it's just level with a box mesh and a distant light or anything more complicated such as my map on the workshop (or e.g. a plane floor, a couple of boxes, cube background and distant light). I've also tested saving the map in different locations, putting in different settings in the GI solver (including not importing the solution automatically and even running it from the command line) and some other stuff, nothing made any difference.
I also want to point out the fact that it works perfectly for me in the SS3 editor again.

I have reproduced the bug and found its source, reported as Bug 40990.

For a quick fix xana, before you bake the GI, in the GI Solution settings, set "Enable Lightmap Streaming" to off. With that, the lightmap won't be blurry.

Thanks, that fix worked for me: http://i.imgur.com/4TJaas8.jpg

Great work guys! Thanks for the bug report!
