Mods for GOG version not working...

So i downloaded some mods, i REALLY wanted to enjoy the game and i didn't want the fact that i bought it on GOG stop me from using mods...

But as soon as i start up, i click on the mods in on the left of the menu screen in-game and the game just... freezes.

What gives? Are people just f*cked over if they buy from GOG instead of steam?
