Description
Welcome!

This map was originally intended to be a simple single room, to provide a visual representation of a temple with a healing pool in a story called Raven's Daughter that I threw together as a favour for some promotional material for a friend's story, however both the creator and I enjoyed the project so much that I elected to turn it into a fully playable map. The Story's creator Jessica also provided the music you hear in the serious version of the map. The map should now be playable from the workshop menu using the new UI, if you're using the old UI read the instructions below.

Source VMF files are now included. They are in the mod folder located at <steam folder>\SteamApps\workshop\content\362890\2780505699. You're welcome to reuse them, all I ask is if you do please credit me by linking to this workshop page. Credits for custom content used are also here in a text file. If you see something you created and want recognition, please let me know and i'll update the file.

To open the map type without the quotes "map temple" from the console.

To open the silly meme edition load "map templol" from the console.

To open the enemy free explorable version load "map temple0e" from the console.

To check out Jessica's story look here:

Notes:

- The map files are large because I intended to create them as a visual showpiece for Jessica's story first. As such, they have a fair amount of high resolution cubemaps.

- Unfortunately the game will lag if you rocket the enemies in the largest room, but as you shoot them from afar this shouldn't hurt the experience too much. The map is as optimised as I could get it, the game just lags in any scenario with a lot of gibs, and / or particle/explosion effects on screen. Nothing I can do about that, the game just isn't brilliantly optimised.

- I have gone over the map forensically and fixed as many texture alignment issues as I could possibly find. There are still a couple of areas where they don't line up flawlessly (mostly a problem with the rock wall texture in the long drop tunnels). There's nothing further I can do about that, but I've tried lining them up as well as I can.

- If you have any feedback or notice any flaws that I've missed, please do leave a comment.

I've pushed another performance and bug fixing update, please check the last 3 changelogs for more details. Additionally, the maps are now playable from the Workshop menu under the new game UI, so you'll no longer have to load them from the console.

Hi, Players

I have fixed a godray related oversight (tech details will be in the next paragraph for anyone interested) that should improve performance on all the maps containing godrays. Give it a try and see if it helps, particularly if you had issues with the map previously.

Tech explanation: I had mistakenly forgotten to enable "render godrays in world space" on the light entitles that produce the godrays, and as a result they were projecting to the maximum range permitted by the light entities, causing the game engine to try and draw them outside of the bounds of the level. This wastes performance for no visual benefit, so unless you have one of these light entitles placed within a skybox or projecting through a world portal, it is best practice to enable this setting for best performance.

What sort of hardware are you running it on? The enemies do hit the framerate if you blow them up with the RPG, but I've never had it crash for that reason while I was developing it. It might also help to turn the unsupported performance heavy settings off.

This one keeps crashing due to there being way too many enemies, but the map looks nice.

The VPK issue has been resolved, and all of the maps are available now in this one upload. Please continue to report any further issues playing the maps.
