Description

Australia and New Zealand are in a very interesting situation. Poor and isolated, but part of the British market, you build from the ground up in recently colonised territory, exponentially growing your population and GDP from the beginning as you take advantage of the riches of a continent ripe with gold. How will you put Australia or New Zealand's name on the map?

This mod seeks to add comprehensive, balanced, challenging and engaging flavour to the experience of going from a fledgling colony to a nation as you navigate brutal wars with the indigenous populations and develop an emerging common identity. This mod introduces many journals and decisions, hundreds of events, 3 monuments, historical characters and parties, an expedition, new flags and subject types and more.

Be prepared for a more difficult, but ultimately more rewarding start that will keep you hooked and hopefully teach you something!

"A great mod; a good amount of difficult, but interesting. I highly recommend it. The more of these sorts of mods that we have out there, the more this game will thrive." - Laith

Wikipedia says that during the time period Australia mostly produced shale oil to supplement imported crude oil, with actual oil reserves only being found in the 1920s. So some small oil reserves would be justified.
Chito 25 Jul @ 5:48pm
Thank you for the reply.
Yes Australia is not a major oil producer. yet based on the data I found, Australia’s crude oil reserves should be roughly comparable to those of Indonesia. And Indonesia has a substantial of oil reserves in the game.
Its true that much of Australia’s oil comes from offshore drilling platforms, and such technology didn’t exist during the game’s time period. But Paradox has never been rigorous when it comes to resource surveys. The game incorporates a significant amount of offshore oil resources when determining oil distribution along the Mexican Gulf Coast.
And prior to the 1950s, the global oil market was dominated by the US. Countries like Canada and those in the Middle East didn’t begin large-scale oil production until after World War II. So giving Australia some oil resources (probably 20) in the game wouldn’t be far-fetched.
As for the second point, could you consider making oil an already discovered resource at the beginning of the game?

Thank you! No I don't intend to, but perhaps you can convince me if you have good reasons. Theres 2 reasons I haven't:
1) Australia doesn't really have much oil. We have a lot of natural gas, but I'm not sure if that should be represented as oil in game. The natural gas also wasn't explored until somewhat recently as far as I know, so that can make these decisions a bit more tricky
2) There's a bit of a game engine limitation when a state that has a combination of oil/rubber/gold that the game isn't really able to tell which resource was discovered and can sometimes trigger gold rush events for oil etc. At least this is what happened last I tested it. So it might mean choosing between gold or oil in a state.

Really great mod it is! Are you planning to add some oil to Australia tho. Thanks for the good work.

Yes there is a new vanilla bug that causes fps lag if theres over 420 countries. PDX is aware of it. As both ANZFP and HC add several countries, it will lag if you use them together. Personally I avoided this issue by putting most my graphics settings on low. That may or may not work for you. As it is, we currently cannot fix this without neutering our own mods design. I've already reduced the amount of countries we add.

I'm getting intense lag from using this mod together with Hail Columbia.
Konijntje 16 Jul @ 9:39am
For those still having lag issues, I like to play with Community mod framework mods together and currently the game cannot handle AFP and Hail Colombia together due to HC also still adding a large amount of tags. Hopefully Paradox fixes that 420 tag limit bug.

Ok my idea worked, but with the limitations, it only works once lol. Should cover 95% of uses, I doubt anyone would change to capitalist, back to aristocrat and then back to capitalist ownership again
Taylor  [author] 15 Jul @ 5:10pm
@Calaverax Thanks and thats a good idea, I had thought the same and tried to, but the modding tools to do it surprisingly don't exist. However, typing this I just thought of a workaround that might do it..
