Description
This mod overhauls the psionic system to make it work like it did in XCOM Enemy Within, where any soldier can become a psionic by being tested in the Psi Lab, and if they have The Gift, they will gain psi abilities in addition to their normal soldier class abilities.

Strategic Changes
  • Psionics are available earlier: Psionics research no longer requires Elerium Crystals.
  • Psi Lab costs less to build and maintain.
  • Psi Lab staffs a scientist instead of an engineer.
Psionic Evaluation Chamber
  • Except for robotic units, any soldier of any class can undergo Psionic Evaluation in the Psi Lab to determine if they have The Gift. Default chance is 25%.
  • If the soldier has The Gift, they gain a Psi Amp slot, a free psionic ability, and a row of additional psionic abilities is inserted into their soldier class ability tree. These abilities can be unlocked by spending promotions or ability points, same as regular soldier class perks. They also have their eye color and hair color changed to purple and white respectively, same as for vanilla Psi Ops.
  • Psionic abilities are intelligently randomized: abilities that require each other to be useful are always placed near each other, and more powerful abilities become available at later ranks.
  • The vanilla Psi Operative class is disabled by default. You can bring it back by toggling the MCM setting that will allow you to send Rookies to undergo Psionic Evaluation in the Psi Lab. If they have The Gift, they will become a Psi Operative.
  • Psi Offense is increased by unlocking certain psionic abilities. The amount will be listed in the ability description.
Psionic Infusion Chamber
  • Psi Infusion chamber becomes available after upgrading the Psi Lab.
  • It can be used to grant psi abilities to soldiers without The Gift, in case you have specific soldiers you really want to become psionic.
  • Psionic Infusion costs an Elerium Core and takes longer than Psi Evaluation.
  • Psionic Infusion can also be performed on soldiers who already use psionic weapons, such as Shard Gauntlets and Psi Amp, as their class weapons.
  • In other words, you can grant additional psi abilities to Templars or other similar soldiers.
Misc
If you have Character Pool soldiers who you want to always be psionic for narrative reasons (e.g. Annette Durand), you can ensure they will have The Gift by assigning the Psi Operative class to them in the Character Pool. This option needs to be enabled in Mod Config Menu.

This mod is developed for FOXCOM Lite[www.patreon.com].

REQUIREMENTS

Safe to add mid-campaign.

COMPATIBILITY

Should be compatible with any soldier class, including Amalgamation.

This mod templates eInvSlot_PsiAmp and is incompatible with any other mod that does the same, unless this feature of the mod is disabled in MCM.


KNOWN ISSUES
Psionic soldiers from this mod won't count as psionic units for the few gameplay mechanics that care about it. Future Highlander updates may address this issue. Note that other psionic overhauls also have this issue.

Everything is working now. Is it just completely random what you get? Like is there a way to make sure that every Psionic would get Soulmerge? Or Psionic Fire? I think I remember that being an ability.

I'm not sure if I did something wrong. It said safe to add mid campaign. I already had the Psi lab building before I downloaded so I think maybe that was the issue. I threw two soldiers into it as a test and it said they would be in there for 0 days but a week went by and then I couldn't pull them out. I'm playing LWOTC but i don't think I have anything that should cause a conflict? Going to do some testing. But creating a record here. I went to a save pre psi lab being finished, deleted it and am now building it from scratch as my first test.

Is there a way to guarantee getting a specific free ability?

Say, if I put the ability I want in Tier 1, and all the rest in Tier 5. Would that work?

Got another question. A couple perks from mitzruti's perks trigger schism. Is there any good way to allow schism to roll alongside those perks without removing the mindspin prereq altogether with kikura's mod?

Just to confirm, part of the way the mod intelligently randomizes the skills is to ensure that abilities that have prerequisites don't get rolled unless the prereq is also in the skill tree correct?
