Description
XM29 Overwatch Interim Combat Weapon

Description:
I found a really cool OICW model online, but it needed some fixing up. Now the low-light scope works! Then I thought, wouldn't it be neat if the scope looked Combine-made, and the rest looked old and worn? Now for the AR2.

Or you can replace the SMG, if you prefer.

Also available: Green lenses or red lenses.


Texture changes:
New scope:
- Fixed lens refraction issues: Much clearer visibility, and now aimed at the crosshair!
- Changed lens tint from green to cyan
- Changed scope to be made of Combine alloy instead of steel
- Added Combine and Sector17 logos
- Replaced all text with Combine font, and added more
- Changed screws into bolts (the Combine don't use screws AFAIK)
Overall improvements:
- Changed material properties to look like HL2's art style (far less envmap; sane phong values)
- Added weathering/patina layer to all steel surfaces (ie., not the Combine alloy scope)
- Added AO (ambient occlusion) layer to enhance shading!
- Added dim red/cyan glows to finger-guard buttons (go somewhere dark and look up!)
- Darkened 20mm magazine and brightened 5.56 magazine, and altered their color
- Added a text block of legalese on one side
Technical upgrades:
- Reduced textures to 2048x2048 to keep the download small :)
- Fixed normal maps, and updated the scope's normal map with Combine alloy / logos
- Added mip-maps for improved visuals
- Hid the "dbal" (laser pointer?) and got rid of its textures since it's literally impossible to see it
- Reduced volume of sounds a little (-5 dB)

Kind of? The view on the lens is almost perfectly centered on the crosshair (at least in 16:9 resolutions, can't vouch for widescreen) so technically you could disable the crosshair and aim with it.

If you're asking if you can press a button to look through the scope like with the crossbow, no, that's not possible without making a mod. This is just a model swap.

That's because this model replaces game_sounds_manifest.txt to make its new reloading sounds work. The only way to change that would be to edit the model, which isn't something I know how to do - I'm a texture-maker, not a model-maker.

This mod is good, but after I install it and go to play a custom game, the custom dialogue doesn't work :steamsad:

If I were to guess, I think the problem comes from both mods having a game_sounds_manifest.txt. Whoever imported this model into HL2 decided, for whatever reason, to script new sounds instead of replacing the old .wav files. I don't know how to edit models (just textures), so I'm not sure how to fix it.

thanks! after looking into it, the mod seems to conflict with the ez2 animations mod https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3366924626 , as it has its own sounds

It shouldn't do anything to any other weapon, and you're the first one to report that. Maybe it's a conflict with another mod?

for some reason this mod makes the pistols reload silent??
