Description
Commander's Medals
Create, award, and manage custom medals and awards for your soldiers. Honor the brave. Shame the weak. Your campaign, your legacy.



🏅 What This Mod Does
Commander's Medals adds a flexible in-game system for adding and tracking medals and commendations.
  • Create medals with custom titles, descriptions, and icons.
  • Award or remove medals.
  • View medals in the Armory and on fallen soldiers in the Memorial.
  • Manage all medals via the Medal Board in the Commander’s Quarters.
  • They don't have to be medals, you can type anything in the text boxes.



📍 How It Works
  • Use the in-game UI to create medals at any time.
  • Assign medals to soldiers during After Action or via HQ panel.
  • Strip medals if you change your mind (or they disgrace the uniform).
  • View medals in the Armory or Memorial via new UI buttons.



🖼️ Custom Icons
Want your own visuals?
  1. Pack some 64x64 images in a .upk
  2. Add the image paths into the XComMedals.ini
  3. They'll appear in the medal icon list instantly



🎖️ Gameplay Integration
  • This system is cosmetic only — it does not alter stats or gameplay mechanics. (For now..)
  • Perfect for roleplayers, storytellers, and commanders who want a deeper connection to their squad.



💡 Notes & Compatibility
  • Works with Long War of the Chosen
  • Carrying over medals from one campaign to the next is possible with the help of the LogMedalsToConsole console command. It's not as simple as I'd like it to be, but it is doable.

You were right,after adjusting the file encoding, it's no longer showing squares or garbled text. I really appreciate it!

Check the text file encoding. I think it needs to be UTF-16 LE-BOM for both .chn and .cht

I tried creating a .chn file to localize the UI into Chinese, but ended up with only blocks and garbled text.
I'm not sure why this happened—it didn't occur when I personally localized other MODs.
Has the author considered Chinese localization?

"Pack some 64x64 images in a .upk" is a thing done with the modding tools. If you want to give it a shot:

It would be possible with an extensive system of event listeners and unit values. Stuff happening in a mission and triggering things in strategy has been suggested before in this and other mods of mine. The reason you don't see it, is because I don't have the knowledge of that aspect of the game to make it yet. I don't think it's hard to learn, but it's not trivial and not something you can pick up while doing other stuff.

I agree, I played with this mod a couple of hours and although it is very fun feature, it is a lot of micromanaging, to remember what medals you have and what everyone has done in a mission. It would be nice and a lot more smooth if medals were coded to be given automatically upon meeting the requirement(s).

Is it possible to make it so that metals can be automatically assigned under certain conditions (e.g. getting 10 kills, or surviving bleed out)?
