Known Capture Issues
I'll list the current issues with certain captures here. I will try to fix these in future updates.

Captures with behavior bugs:
  • A few captures (Heavy Drones and likely a few others) will not spawn correctly from pet tethers, it seems. When an area they are tethered in is exited/reentered, they'll disappear upon loading in. Their capture pod needs only to be removed/reinserted for them to spawn correctly, but I will try and address this issue nonetheless.

  • Some issue loading in a few monsters after exiting/reentering the game or an area has been reported; this has been noted only with the Po so far, and I haven't seen it for myself.

  • Mother Poptop does not seem to produce any Poptops after being captured. (She won't turn into an Adult Poptop, though!)

  • The Po give off a strange blink animation after splitting if they are pets, but will still split into two pet Po. I spent enough time making their splitting mechanic function at all that I don't really think it's worth bothering to try to fix this anyway.

  • As mentioned in the description, a handful of captures haven't been updated with following behavior, so several won't follow the player if they are pets.


Monsters that cannot be captured:
  • Gift Monsters, if you even know what those are, have scripting that is beyond broken, which is probably why they aren't obtainable in-game. They're probably too buggy to make work at all without some serious changes, but I'll look into it.

  • Bosses and boss minions (excluding Ixoling) cannot be captured, for obvious reasons... granted, I may try to make the guardian minions capturable, but we'll see. At the very least capture pods won't instakill bosses now, so that's nice.

  • Dreadwing's penguin foot soldiers aren't capturable. This may change soon. The tanks and mini UFOs are capturable, though.

  • Ship pets aren't capturable, and I don't see much reason that they should be, so I'm not going to change that.


That should be most of the issues, but please let me know in the comments if there are any other problems that you notice.

I see it for what it is - compatible partners :eg:

Haven't you ever heard of someone usiing the phrase "You captured my heart" in reference to falling in love? Furthermore does not a Man "Own" His wife - and the wife "Own" her husband? The Idea that capturing and/or owning people is wrong - is an affront to linguistics.

Of course - depending on what one does with that authority - determines much of what people consider evil; but the ability to corrupt does not equate to the assurance of corruption. It's like saying "All People who can write Lua Scripts are dangerous to the gaming community".

Well didn't mean to affront any linguistics there. Honestly it was just a big discussion back on the original Any Capture page, and I disabled capturability of those enemies more for realism than anything else. It didn't seem to make sense for an "npc" of sorts to be caught in a pod i guess, but if others want them to be capturable, I could change that.

I see well - perhaps it's a case of there is no reason to discuss it - but rather just implement what your heart desires without comment? In any case - I apologize for being so stuck up - I kinda got triggered a bit I admit - forgive me will ya?

That aside, I'm still willing to add them in as captures if people want, so...

As for realism and your quite valid point that it doesn't make a lot of sense to store them in a pod - I question whether ANY life would be reducable to mere digital data in any realistic sense; following that logic it doesn't really matter one way or the other.

As a sidenote: There is a saying in the scientific community, "Nature never breaks her own laws" - and it references the fact that natural laws are the absolute and that "Scientific" Laws are subject to change upon new discoveries - and new information.

Pokemon uses the same Logic. Also, it is basically possible to store a being inside data, as our brain is working with nothing more than electrical currents. And Teleportation is sending the data, about how a object is constructed to a "3d printer" to reconstruct it. Pokemon and Starbound just add a function, where the hostility of the being is getting restricted, at least against the owner.

He didn't were on surface of any planet in centuries! And imagine how messy floor of my ship becomes after months of my absence :C

I did just have an idea of how ship pets could kinda be made capturable, but I'd need to figure out some of the logistics of it I guess...

Good luck with it then. Hope to see your work in near futer as well. Ship pets have some of unique features like basic but still interactions with players as well as some objects. Figuring out those parts would be awesome information with creating more interesting creatures with additional features for future mods wich would be totally awesome.

Dude if you make it so we can catch the guardians and their minions I would never uninstall this mod. It would let me finally build the war planet.

They would be enough for me. Especially the fused form. The Guardians are rather boring in my opinion. But maybe that's because i have a Deathclaw

Really I just want to be able to catch everything. I love going planet to planet catching anything I can find then taking them to my testing ground for well testing to see how useful they are for what. I will even test custom built and modded ones. And even if they are not good enough to use for anything I like having them to be there as a "this is what I have found in my travels." And thanks to that replacater mod I never have to worry about having to find them again.

Ixoling can be captured via commands
e.g. /spawnmonster ixoling 1 '{"capturable":true}'
and boom, it can be captured! :D

edit: same goes for the tentacle monsters (tentaghost, tentagnat etc.)
