Black Mesa

Black Mesa

Black Mesa: Military
Install is confusing
I find this installing instructions to be confusing or incomplete. Or they weren't updated from past versions.
- First they state to go to steam/steamapps/workshop/content/362890/1720191293 (but there's no folder in my "workshop" folder)
- Then they state "Default game path is: Steam\steamapps\common\Black Mesa\"
So where should I copy the "bmmilitary" folder and .BAT files: the first or the second path?

Besides, when I try to launch the mod it appears an error message, saying it cannot find "bms.exe".
But there's no "bms.exe" inside the "bmmilitary" folder (in fact there's no .EXE at all).

Lastly, inside "bmmilitary" folder there's a "gameinfo.txt" file, stating this: "the main game resources are in someplace like c:\program files\valve\steam\steamapps\half-life 2."
But in my Steam directory, "Half-Life 2" folder is located in this path: "c:\program files\valve\steam\steamapps\common\half-life 2."

Without further clarifications, there's no way I can launch this mod. Either something is missing or it's in the wrong place.

PS: I downloaded the "Black_Mesa_Military_2025.rar" file from ModDB.

If you have downloaded from moddb, then the installation instructions will be different. First, you can skip the step with searching for workshop content, since you haven't downloaded from here. BMS.exe is your installed Black Mesa, not the mod, in the game's folder is bms.exe, not the modification. So, copy the folders of the mod into the game's folder.
Thanks for the help.
It's getting better but it's still not clear; maybe English is not your language? (some sentences don't make much sense...)

> BMS.exe is your installed Black Mesa
I haven't any "Black Mesa" installed - so no BMS.exe, anywhere.
Do you mean I have to download a "Black Mesa"? What is it, and from where?

I'm sorry to seem pedantic... but I have been a gamer for 30 years (and I'm an ex programmer to boot), and yet these are among the more confusing and lacking instructions I've ever met.

Honestly I'm amazed: your team must have spent thousands of hours building this mod, and yet it seems nobody cared to spend more than 5 minutes to write down these instructions.
If it can help, after solving this issue I could write down a better install guide for all future downloaders. :-)

English is not my language, but I don't think I wrote anything that is unclear. You probably don't understand the instructions I provided.

I don't know what to say, what did you think? That a mod would run without the base game installed first? Is this your first modification? For a modification to work for any game, you need to install the original game first, and then the files which were modified by the modder, this is very obvious, so I expect that you are new to the modding world.

You don't know what Black Mesa is? Then why are you installing this modification in the first place? This is very odd to me.
I'm sorry but if you are an ex- programmer, then I find it very hillarious, that you can't install a simple modification.

The instructions provided are VERY clear, there is no setup and only ONE folder to copy into the game with a simple copy and paste, plus the launcher.bat files but it's just a matter of copying one folder and one shortcut of the launcher. I don't know what other instruction could be made, there's more...

When you install the mod for Half Life 2 for example, you need to apply it to the custom folder, to even make it work, in here, you don't even have to do THIS, you just copy and paste the files so it's even easier.

Maybe I can become a programmer too? If I don't even have to know how to install a simple mod? I may be rude, but I just can't treat it seriously, this feels like a cheap bait.

I'm sorry, it was my fault: I assumed yours was a mod for Half-Life 2, and I didn't notice it was stated as for "Black Mesa" instead. My bad.
Of course you assumed an installation of Black Mesa was already present, but I didn't. Thus the misunderstanding and the failure.

To be clear, I'm not new to mod installing. I just took as a given that it was a HL2 mod. One more proof that one should never take things for granted. ;-)

I'm sorry if my tone sounded harsh or offending. I didn't mean to. I was just lost.
Thanks for your support anyway.

PS: Adding a line stating "This mod requires having Black Mesa previously installed" in the instructions could maybe help naive or uninformed folks like me. :-)

It's okay, I'm glad that you figured out the issue. Case is closed then, I assume.

You posted in the Workshop discussion for a mod for Black Mesa on Steam, it's linked to the game, not Half-Life 2.

You can not download this mod on Steam without Black Mesa on Steam, so i assumed you got the mod elsewhere as you posted, even if you didn't mention it.

The instructions here are for Black Mesa on Steam, really simple.

Even if you downloaded the mod from ModDB, it would still require a Black Mesa copy.

That is due to licensing which most games or their mods have to abide to.

It's not broken, otherwise, no one would be able to play the mod and a lot of people do play it without problems.

You are supposed to run it using "Run the mod using "Launch Black Mesa Military.bat"", launching Black Mesa from your library doesn't run the mod, if i'm not mistaken.

Just follow the instructions carefully and you are good to go.

Indeed, launching Black Mesa won't run the mod, unless Pott93 has added it to launch options, then the mod would launch instead of the base game, when running it via Black Mesa launcher on steam.

Aight, so basically putting the *.bat file contents into the launch option for the game. I haven't played it myself yet but it's on my list after finishing the main Black Mesa game, including Blue Shift. Thanks for the mods.

Copy bmmilitary and Launch Black Mesa Military.bat (Launch Black Mesa Military oldmenu.bat is optional) files to your
Black Mesa directory (where game .exe file is).
Default game path is: Steam\steamapps\common\Black Mesa\

Run the mod using "Launch Black Mesa Military.bat

Done all this and i launched it the right way. it wont work... even with adminstrator privilages

But what happens that it won't work?
