An updated version of this is something I've been chipping *cough*procrastinating*cough* away at for a while now. It's also a low priority now with work and collage.
You bring up some valid points. The bonus for skilled play is defnintley something I'd like to try implementing once I get off my lazy ass get around to working on the next version. I fiddles with the 5-lane option in AS1 and it was just too much information at once for me to handle. I could probably release a 5-lane option alongside the next release (I'm pretty sure it's just one built in setting, nothing fancy).
To be fair here, you know someone's a major badass if they straight-up ace a song; you really can't rightfully top that ^^ Maybe a version that goes at the same speed as ninja turbo could be good though; one or two people I've talked to say that this mod isn't as "impressive" to show off with as a lot of other mods. I'm pretty sure those people would happily attempt to ace high block-density songs on a faster version of this because that would be a rather impressive display of skill.
I can't really say anything to it if getting around to making any more versions of this takes you a while; I personally just spend my time doing stuff I enjoy and don't have much patience for code. I can't even use having work and or school as an excuse for that xD
