Slowdown, performance issue
hello everyone !
First of all, thank you to the team for this incredible work !
from the main menu, I have big performance problems as if my PC was running Windows XP and even the mouse can't keep up! I have an i9 and a 3070 and I don't see anyone complaining so the problem comes from me? I even set the lowest resolution and nothing changes... help me

Your are playing a 30+ year old game that only runs on one core. So no matter what you have, your computer is way better than what the program can run. I can only suggest you pick a map with lower number of planets to play.

Is there any way to run the game on a single core?

So everyone just plays this mod (Game isn't even 20 years old yet), with unbearable lag?

Did you figure it out? This is ridiculous.

Hello my friends, my only solution is to switch to my work computer which is an i7 - 16gb - 1050 and it works wonderfully!

There are definitely degrees of lag. It is not entirely insurmountable (or fixable for that matter) but there are things you can try before replacing your CPU in a bid to get more EAW performance.

If you're on Windows, while the game is running you can use the task manager to change the game's priority and affinity settings. Setting the game to high priority and restricting the game's affinity to CPU 0 and CPU 1 can net you some frames but is not absolute and kinda depends on what's happening in game anyways. Also these methods need to be done every time the game is run which is mildly inconvenient.

There is supposedly a way to create a shortcut that does all of that legwork when the game runs instead of having to do it manually each time you launch the game but I'm not sure on the exact steps for that. Additionally if you've run the game using compatibility mode previously you'll want to disable that as well.

Otherwise it's a matter of maximizing single core CPU performance. Most CPUs these days are multi-core and while that definitely helps performance with modern programs, EAW is old and will not effectively utilize the multi-core aspect of modern CPUs so finding a CPU with good single core performance is highly recommended. My own Ryzen 5 5600g generally does well enough even in fairly large battles though it does struggle when there are a lot of fighters present on the field.

A half decent GPU will also help some but is far lower on the list of priorities compared to a CPU if you were to, say, build a new PC from scratch.

Aparentemente, el problema es la compatibilidad. En propiedades, siguiendo la ruta tradicional donde esta ubicado el ejecutable de FOC. Desmarcas la compatibilidad con windows 8...y me funcionó. Thks mate!!
