FTGU is a challenge mode, if you find it too hard it might be better for you to try a different GC, such as one of the historical campaigns.

carrier raid tactics of hit and run to clear a few planet to get your economy started.

Best thing for FTGU early on is...patience, taking it slow. Focus on smaller, cheaper units at first. I like to stack a mix of laser and turbolaser light frigates/corvettes around fleet tenders and "heal-tank" through opposition. Carracks and peltas will serve you well. For ground forces, Republic has it easier than CIS in FTGU early game since clones are good against everything and decently affordable, whereas CIS kinda needs a mix of specialized vehicles to do well.

Your economy won't really get rolling until you have about 5 or so worlds under your belt, and even then, it's better to stick with cheap things for a while so you can stockpile credits for your first major heavy fleet.

IMO, FTGU in FotR is easier than regular GC's because regular GC's have your territory all mucked up and mixed in the opponent's territory. A standard progressive GC is especially awful in this regard, no matter what faction you play. If I knew how to make GC maps, I'd probably make one where Republic starts in the center, and CIS along the rim, with a buffer of neutral worlds separating both. FotR would benefit immensely from custom GC as was introduced in TR recently. Regular GC's are just a total mess.

best thing to do is use just carriers do hit and runs with fighters and bombers keep carriers at edge of map as soon as they get close to weapons range retreat so u wear them down even if they have interdiction mines carriers can use jump to hyperspace abilty so mines wont prevent retreat you can take out the stations by having 1 carrier spawn into map fast forward till the whole fleet goes after him just as they reach him he jumps away and u throw the rest of ur carrierrs beside their station and take it out if u have other ships then carriers that u want to use have fighters and bombers take out whatever sets the interdiction mines then u can also use other ships on next hit

As for income click the credit button see what planets give higher income and focus on going for them firstc check whcih planets have mining faciltys as well casue even if it says 0 ioncome for them if they mining world they give a good amount when all income stuff is built but if they say 0 and arent minging worlds dont buy any income structres there just waste of income last thing try not to build buildings that lower your income even 10 ship crew adds up and is more than enough if ur carriers retreat and dont die lastly save just b4 misson objective u can keep loading till u get a mission that suits or gives a really good reward instead of some ♥♥♥♥♥♥ troopers or sumtin
