Guvenoren  [developer] 1 Nov, 2020 @ 2:00am
Buildings, Alignments, Technologies and Other changes (Updated 2021-01-09)
Alignments:
Description:
The Alignment system is now readily available for the AI Eight Princes. The Princes has different accumulation of the resources depending on their personality that I saw fit. It's not perfect by any means, but it's what I have. Discussion is worthwhile on the subject of finetuning.
  • Sima Lun: +0.4 Spirit/+1 Mind/+0.4 Might/+1 Wealth
  • Sima Liang: +1 Spirit/+0.4 Mind/+0.5 Might/+0.5 Wealth
  • Sima Jiong: +0.8 Spirit/+0.3 Mind/+0.8 Might/+0.3 Wealth
  • Sima Yong: +0.3 Spirit/+0.5 Mind/+1 Might/+0.2 Wealth
  • Sima Wei: +0.2 Spirit/+1 Mind/+1 Might/+0.4 Wealth
  • Sima Yue: +0.8 Spirit/+1 Mind/+0.5 Might/+0.3 Wealth
  • Sima Ying: +1 Spirit/+0.8 Mind/+0.2 Might/+0.2 Wealth
  • Sima Ai: +1 Spirit/+0.5 Mind/+0.5 Might/+0.2 Wealth

Population bonus fix from TheDogIsComfy:
  • Added the population bonuses that was fixed by TheDogIsComfy

Emperor:
  • Being an Usurper Emperor now provides +5% replenishment for Imperial units factionwide.

Buildings, Alignment, Factions and Other Changes:

Building: Judiciary
Description:
The Judiciary as a faction specific building offers special details for certain factions (Sima Liang, Sima Lun and Sima Jiong) that decide to build it.
It should offer desirable effects for those factions and as such should be worth while.

For all Variants:
  • The Judiciary building now has a ai score system, increasing the chances that the AI will build it.
Sima Lun's variant:
  • Increases relations with Jin Empire by 3/6/9/12/15.
  • If you use my Unique Units Mod for Eight Princes, the Judiciary building for Sima Lun provides with 2 new units.
Sima Liang's variant:
  • Increase the amount of income from tributaries from max 5% to max 15%, alt version has 25%.
  • Added Noble support by 2/4/6/8/10.
Sima Jiong's variant:
  • Added an increase in prestige (10/15/20).

Building: Certain unique buildings
  • Sima Wei's unique conscription building increases industry income by +20/+40/+60
  • Sima Ying's unique building now also applies peasantry income bonus to adjacent provinces up to max +15%.

Building: Inspector Offices
Description:
Although the building wasn't useless, it just wasn't better than the Confusian Temple under any circumstances. Now it provides a great opportunity to focus on peasantry income.
  • Inspector offices buildings now produce peasantry income by 60/80/100/120/160
  • Inspector office income from all sources bonus changed from 10%/15%/20%/25%/30% to 5%/10%/15%/20%/25%

Technologies
Description:
The technologies are sufficient and very straightforward. They provide a great opportunity to add grander faction changes depending on Faction rank, since faction rank unlocks new researches. Here are some changes to the technology tree:

  • "Field Surgery" technology provides -10% redeployment cost reduction now rather than -20%.
  • "The Shibing System" technology provides -5% redeployment cost reduction now rather than -10%.
  • "Harmonious living" technology now provides -10% salary cost.

Unit Unlock changes:
  • Major: Imperial Units can now be recruited once you have hit Imperial Prince rank and researched the appropriate researches. No longer requires you to be an emperor to recruit them now.
  • Heavy Cataphracts unit unlock moved from "Long-Term Cordination" to "Military Farms".
  • Imperial Gate Guards unit unlock moved from "Imperial Officials" to "Defence Posts".
  • Azure Dragon unit unlock moved from "Topography" to "Defence Posts".
  • Defenders of Earth and Protectors of Heaven unit unlock moved "Palace Guards" technology.

So I'm not sure if it was intended for the Inspector's Office branch and Temples (yellow building) to be so different for Sima Ai compare to other princes.

Sima Ai's inspector's office works like base game's tax collection building (reduce order, base peasantry income)
Other prince has (reduce order, total income multiplier)

Sima Ai's temple doesn't offer increase research rate, others do.

For balance, I think other prince should get the peasantry income version of the inspector's office.
I'm aware of his reformation design makes his buildings differ, but the difference is too big to be intended.

I did notice, but I figured it would make sense, given the balance I have given him. He starts with being able to research 2nd tier of techs at the beginning of the game, but lacks in research speed drastically. So I did notice and I left it as it was. So it's tough for Sima Ai to gather research speed if not focusing on Reformation

I see your reasoning for the temple, Sima Ai doesn't need the research speed.

The inspector's office still feels strange how different they are, making other prince less desirable to go for peasantry based income.
lvl 5 (-20 noble support for +30% total income) seems pretty weak now we have the population effect fix for 8p

True. Maybe it needs an overhaul? I any suggestions?

Honestly, if grain storage building chain gets the peasantry based income instead, the inspector's office chain can just be removed or overhaul.

It doesn't have to a income multiplier building, but I wouldn't know how you could change it and warrant a build slot.

The grain storage building will stay the same. Imo, grain storage is really good with the bonus to reserves and public order. but it's less good as public order is really easy to come by in Eight Princes.

I will see what I can do about the building.

Here's what I have planned for the Inspector building being rather terrible.

Thoughts?

Yeah this could work. It's not too good that I'll spam it in every town, but I would see myself building it in a small regional city along with commerce or industry.

The high upkeep hinders it from an early game building.

This really good.

i feel like the alignment system was one of the few things that made it interesting as it could slightly change your gameplay... and it could also lead to unique events iirc that were a nice change of pace from the main campaign
Guvenoren  [developer] 7 Nov, 2020 @ 11:10am
Problem is, it makes you cheat. I don't stand for that in a balanced gameplay.
I honestly didn't wanna remove it.
