It stacks across attempts, which going by simple division means the individual rebuffs are only a -4.25 mood debuff. This is a smaller debuff than a bad hangover or being insulted, which is -5 in vanilla, and about the same as any of the sleep related debuffs (cold, heat, outside, floor), which are all -4.
