New Mod Idea: Reduced Garrison
I'm working on a reduced garrison mod currently and wanted to see if there is any desire for it in the community, and if so, what are some ideas you all may have for the details of such a mod.

I'm currently playing around with a roughly 30% reduction in the size of the garrisons in DEI, this changes gameplay quite a bit however, as you'll now need some kind of regional response, especially once you get bigger, and balancing how big or little a regional army can be, it's good to have at least 3 units on the stance patrol region anyway, and thus is an extension of that, but you won't have those full stack garrisons to blunt any invasions as much.

Thoughts?

I really want to try a game with a 50% reduced garrison, I've tried other mods, but they're not being supported anymore, and missing 80% of what's in those files today, and reduces the garrison to like 25% of what it is now. Which is an interesting campaign, you have to budget in regional armies cause garrisoning every city to the max is to expensive, but if you design low budget regional forces that can act as a quick reaction force to local regions, basically move them from worst public order province to worst po provice, on the stance patrol region, helps stamp down bandrity and increases public order, but from time to time you'll have rebellions, invasions, things will pop up you'll be glad you have that regional force around for, and maintaining 4 small regional armies is better than supporting a stack in every city.

It just gives you a lot more to balance in your games.

I know the mod, but its horribly outdated, espeically for DEI, I'm working on an updated version for DEI but it's a lot of units so it's taking a while with all my real life stuff going on

Sound good, it changes the game so so so much. I love it. You don't have to make recruitment/upkeep so stupidly expensive to balance the economy, defeating enemy armies is decisive now. protecting your settlements, taking it slow while cultural tensio on adding to the exp. taking care of the salve revolts...
I'd say essential to a good long campaign.

I agree, I love it, adds more of that Rome 1 feeling to the game, plus more challenge, instead of magical garrisons, full stack in size, materializing out of nowhere, now you have to decide if you want to actually garrison key provinces or beefing up your main armies. One thing that always bugged me about DEI was the fact that these magical full stack garrisons pop out of nowhere after crushing their full stack, sometimes 2 or 3 full stack field armies, only to face a new full stack out of nowhere, when trying to move on and capture their settlements .

Yeah, especially when your garrison regen none compared to AI. couldn't have relayed the frustration better myself! Cheers

I appreciate the offer, I'm going to focus on getting Ultimate 12 turns per year up to par with the new beta, and then if you're interested maybe we can work something out on this idea, I really want to wrap this up, but it's a massive undertaking, lets meet up on the discord sometime in the near future and we'll discuss a plan going forward. Thanks again for your offer and support of the mod!
