Guess what? It's not even in the data folder itself, it's a freaking plugin that for some reason makes the battles crawl and stutter for no reason...
Go to:
"/home/deck/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/workshop/content/885970/2487698001/" and delete the folder "truesky".
After that, simply reduce the lower section of the advanced settings, in particular the "Post processing" and "Quality" sections, just lower that as much as you can.
Everything else can be set to High (and the unit size to Ultra).
Worked like magic.
I'm getting +50 FPS in the campaign map and in the Battlefield, 30-60 no problem...

Hopefully they will patch this and maybe realize where the issue lies for a lot of people when it comes to performance issues with this mod.
PS: the only "issue" I have now is that the game crashes when (AND ONLY WHEN) I exit to Desktop.
