Will there be a skill tree?
This is a question that gets asked frequently, so to make it easier I figured I'd make a pinned thread for visibility. Here's my thoughts about it that I've posted previously:

I've had a lot of trouble when it comes to designing a skill tree. It's tough because a lot of energy is put into making the character unique, but the skill tree also asks of you to create original ideas onto an already established character; so skill ideas tend to either totally change existing mechanics/balance or just give a lame buff.

When it comes to adding totally new things like spells I feel restricted as well, since while switching spells is simple and intuitive, the system's not really built to handle an indefinite amount of them, in terms of user experience. I'm not keen on switching to something like Klei's new skill wheel either.

All that said, I have something I'm somewhat happy with (as much as one can be when it comes to these lol) though still needs a lot of tweaking, and it's a big slog to work on so I can't say it'll happen soon.

A simple and lazy idea for Flaire skill tree: remove spellprints and spell mastery bonus from how they are now and make unlocking new spells and activating spell mastery into nodes on a skill tree. Same with random mana refill when all spells are learned.

Current system already feels like progressing via some other characters skill tree (Willow), you just came up with it before Klei did :DSTwilson:

It's a nice idea on the surface, but it would sort of undermine the point of having additional spells and such in the first place; their primary purpose is actually to encourage spell casting. And I'm sure you'll agree, I think it'd be sort of disappointing to just recycle a mechanic for her skill tree.

I do have some cool ideas, but I've been pretty busy lately and I want to take my time with it, so when it comes out it'll hopefully be as good as it can be!
