<!-- ==== Empire Titles - Associate Tier ==== -->

<!-- ==== Freeholder ==== -->
The Imperial title of freeholder is used by the Empire to signifies a fully-respected individual. Most Imperial citizens earn it while young through volunteer work or military service. The title is also offered to outsiders who act with honor in the eyes of the Empire.

<!-- ==== Empire Titles - Peasant Tier ==== -->

<!-- ==== Plebian ==== -->
The Imperial title of plebian is used by the Empire to signify the lowest class of citizenry. As a member of the plebs, there is much growth to be made.

<!-- ==== Commoner ==== -->
The Imperial title of commoner is held by those who have ascended beyond that of the plebians but still hold little to no value within the Empire. A commoner is just someone who has proven themselves beyond being dirt poor.

<!-- ==== Empire Titles - Citizen Tier ==== -->
---------- 5 Permit Points Per Title ----------

<!-- ==== Yeoman ==== -->
The Imperial title of yeoman is given to those whom have proven to be useful members of the Empire. Usually low level craftsman or artisans with some basic levels of wealth.

<!-- ==== Citizen ==== -->
Citizens, the backbone of the Empire. Many, and by many meaning an incredibly large portion of the Empire never breach beyond the level of Citizen. In fact a large portion of the Empire usually get stuck with the title of commoner or plebian. Making it this far is however quite an achievement. Almost always backed by some sort of worksmanship skills that are used by other citizens and of course, the nobility.

<!-- ==== Princeps ==== --> (Level 1 Psychic)
Princeps, usually translated as "First Citizen", is an honorable title granted to select individuals who have worked their way into the upper echelon of the common man. Bestowed with psychic powers, and the gift of extra access to things on offer from the Empire, this is a great step forward for any citizen of the Empire and their family. This title is also commonly handed out to prominent families as a way of thanks for their continued contribution to the Empire.

<!-- ==== Empire Titles - Lower Wealth Tier ==== -->
---------- 12 Permit Points Per Title ----------

<!-- ==== Aspirant ==== --> (Level 1 Psychic)
An Aspirant. The lowest ranked tier of wealthy families or individuals within the Empire. Aspirants are beyond that of low level citizens, but are not nobility. They have wealth, but not enough for it to be something to really be envious of, though at least they have wealth at all, and are much better off them the plebians and commoners.

<!-- ==== Acolyte ==== --> (Level 1 Psychic)
Acolytes are the second rung of the low tier wealthy citizens of the Empire. Acolytes have decent funds available to live comfortably, as well as grease the wheels to get the ball rolling in their preffered general direction. Lots of Acolyte families will often enter into military service looking to expand upon their family name, quite similar to that of the Equites.

<!-- ==== Equite ==== --> (Level 1 Psychic)
Very well off is a good way to describe an Equite. Arrogance always follows the money, and the Equite are no exception to this rule. There are of course always exceptions to be made but most equite find themselves living quite lavishly in comparisons to the greater denizens of the Empire. Through their connections and wealth, they often send their children off to the military in order to try and curry favor from the nobility for their family gains.

<!-- ======== Empire Titles - Military Tier ======== -->
---------- 25 Permit Points Per Title ----------

<!-- ==== Page ==== --> (Level 2 Psychic)
A Page is the first nobility driven military rank within the Empire. Mostly tasked with following around either a Praefect in training, or Chevalier to Knight. These young military nobles often come from Equite families and sometimes Acolyte families. They learn on the job and unless they are both imbeciles or their family runs out of money or connections, they almost always make it to Squire after due time. Though this is generally a years long process.

<!-- ==== Squire ==== --> (Level 2 Psychic)
A Squire is essentially a better page, or perhaps you could call them a book! They are usually assigned a Knight to whom they serve for the most part. Helping them with many different tasks both mundane and military. As opposed to a Page, a Squire can actually see both combat and leadership positions, though in small part, due to their lengthy military careers. Peace time usually sees them relegated to a quiet life with the Knight they are assigned to, while wartime usually gives them a few spare moments to spread their wings. It is usually in these times, during war, where a Squire will begin to earn their stripes. Unless of course, they have either the connections of liquid assets to grease the wheels of fate.

<!-- ==== Praefect ==== --> (Level 2 Psychic)
Praefects are a type of military or sometimes civil offical. Praefects generally lead an administrative position. Often times they will be used as MPs, or Military Police. They are advised by the delegation of higher authorities, which is where the power truly sits. Duties often include controlling prisons and other civil administrations. Praefect is usually a side gig on the way to knightship, but can be very useful in bolstering the resume of would be Knights.

<!-- ==== Chevalier ==== --> (Level 2 Psychic)
The rank of Chevalier is, though not fully knighted, the rank and title of Knight. It is the very first step into the realm of upper authority. Though leadership is incredibly thin and almost non-existant, those who make it to Chevalier easily secure stable positions within the Empire. However it is to be noted that those who reach this rank are still by and large considered replaceable by the nobility who usually will have a detachment of Chevaliers/Knights etc. at their estates for private military power. In the Empire, military might, is political might.

<!-- ==== Knight/Dame ==== --> (Level 3 Psychic)
The title of knight is held by nobles who have largely passed their training, but who have not ascended to higher leadership roles. Many knights never advance further, and spend their lives as respected managers, advisors, or warriors.\n\nMost knights have some wealth, but a few remain quite poor while others may be very rich.\n\nIn peacetime, a knight may manage a factory complex, commercial district, or small farming region. In war, some knights lead troop companies and assault squadrons, while psychic-focused knights engage in espionage, sabotage, and battlefield psychic combat.

<!-- ==== Legate ==== --> (Level 3 Psychic)
A Legatus, or Legate, is a middle ranking military officer equivalent to a middle management position. Often in supporting roles that govern larger bodies of military action. While not holding true ultimate authority themselves, they can easily act with near impunity within their controlled areas. Legatus are also often used as an ambassador, who are appointed by the Empire for missions (legatio) to foreign nations.

<!-- ==== Archon ==== --> (Level 3 Psychic)
Archons are placed in charge of various naval bases and trade stations, as well as semi-autonomous inhabited areas under the Empires sovereignty. Archon, meaning "to be first, to rule", are high level members of the Empires military, and often get decent command authority. Obviously as the Empire is heavily aristocratic, all real military command is handled by rich and wealthy high class nobility, any sort of unit movement on grand scale are always nobility, but Archons usually have a great deal of freedom in movement of the forces they are tasked with leading, in the name of higher nobility they are assigned.

<!-- ==== Praetor ==== --> (Level 3 Psychic)
The title of praetor is a bridge between the service-oriented lower titles below and the power-holding nobility above.\n\nDuring peacetime, a prateor will usually manage a city district, asteroid sector, or agricultural region. During war, they take authority over the smallest combat units that fight independently - terrestrial troop cohorts, or space-borne destroyers or combat groups.

<!-- ==== Empire Titles - Low Nobility ==== -->
---------- 50 Permit Points Per Title ----------

<!-- ==== Lord/Lady ==== --> (Level 4 Psychic)
The lowest echelon of the nobility. Attaining the rank of Lord/Lady is a great achievement for a family or individual. With great rank comes great responsibility, and great rewards. Lords and Ladies of the Empire enjoy a wide range of incredible benefits which almost always include preferential treatment, kickback of money and slaves as well as military command authority during wartime.

<!-- ==== Patrician ==== --> (Level 4 Psychic)
Relating to, having, or characterized by high birth, rank, or station. A group of citizen families who, in contrast with the plebeian classes below them, form a privileged and wealthy class of people who begin to recieve large benefits and status amongst the Empire. Once at the rank of Patrician, middle of the lower class nobility, those that make up it's membership usually want for nothing, except the increased rank and peerage of the realm. From this point onward, it becomes a game. A dangerous, royal court filled political intrugue game of titles, rank, life, and death.

<!-- ==== Baronet ==== --> (Level 4 Psychic)
A baronet or the rare female equivalent, a baronetess, is the holder of a baronetcy, a hereditary title awarded by the Empire. The practice of awarding baronetcies was originally introduced in the Empire in the 36th century and was used by Jackson III of the Empire in 3611 as a means of raising funds. This title allots those who hold it the first set of stairs to climb, in order to make it to what most would consider the real nobility.

<!-- ==== Empire Titles - Middle Nobility ==== -->
---------- 80 Permit Points Per Title ----------

<!-- ==== Baron/Baroness ==== --> (Level 5 Psychic)
The title of baron is the lowest of the middle nobility. While lower titles focus on personal service at war or commerce under a lord, barons hold title as semi-independent rulers. Each baron is subordinate to his liege lord, but his obligations are mostly in supplying wealth and troops, and not in personal service.\n\nIn the Empire, a baron will typically own a city sector, mining colony, or similar outfit. At wartime, a baron may captain a capital ship in name, or control a regiment of troops.

<!-- ==== Earl ==== --> (Level 5 Psychic)
Earl is a rank of the nobility in the Empire. The title originates in the Old English word eorl, meaning "a man of noble birth or rank". Though back in the medieval ages often used interchangebly with the rank/title of Count, an Earl is seen as lower then a Count and is it's own rank within the incredibly exapnded size of the Empire compared to that of smaller medieval nations of old. Earls hold immesne power over those they lord over and their wealth is nothing to scoff at. Some tend to take it easy when they hit the rank of Earl, as the fighting for the royal court only gets more cutthroat from this point forward.

<!-- ==== Viscount ==== --> (Level 5 Psychic)
A Viscount is a middle nobility rank in the Empire peerage system, standing directly above an earl and just below a Count. There are huge ammounts of viscountcies currently in the peerages of the Empire, though most are secondary titles to something greater then themselves.

<!-- ==== Count ==== --> (Level 6 Psychic)
Count, or Countess for women, is a historical title of nobility in the Emopire, varying in relative status, generally of middling rank in the hierarchy of nobility. In peacetime, counts hold title to a city or colony, and might have a small personal fleet, possibly including capital ships. A Count is a title whose authority derives directly from the royal household, the "palace" in its original sense of the seat of power and administration. In all technicality and terms, a noblemans rank truly means nothing until they have reached the peerage of Count. At least as far as the eyes of the higher ranking nobility are concerned. Count is at a point where even those above them cannot fully dismiss them, as their power and political reach cannot be dismissed.

<!-- ==== Empire Titles - High Nobility ==== -->
---------- 120 Permit Points Per Title ----------

<!-- ==== Margrave ==== --> (Level 6 Psychic)
Margrave was originally the medieval title for the military commander assigned to maintain the defence of one of the border provinces of the Empire. Though now it is used mostly as an advanced form of applying extra benefits to those in nobility, however very like the old times from which the title is derived, The greater exposure of a border province to military invasion mandates that margraves be provided with military forces and autonomy of action (political as well as military) greater than those accorded other lords of the realm.

<!-- ==== Marquess ==== --> (Level 6 Psychic)
an Empire title of nobility, ranking in modern times immediately below a duke and above a Margrave. Etymologically the word marquess or margrave denoted a nobleman holding a march, or mark, that is, a frontier district; but this original significance has long been lost, and is now used to award members of the nobility who have risen among the ranks to greater heights then was previously possible. In the royal court of the Empire, these men and women of nobility are often found in constant gridlock with each other, fighting over scraps of legitimacy and the attention of the throne for expanded influence of the royal court.

<!-- ==== Duke/Duchess ==== --> (Level 6 Psychic)
The Imperial title of Duke is one of the highest of ranks of the high nobility.\n\nIn the Empire, dukes will often control provinces, mega-cities, or moons. At war, a duke can field a division-level force, or a fleet with capital ships and dozens of support craft.

<!-- ==== Arch Duke/Arch Duchess ==== --> (Level 6 Psychic)
Archduke was the title borne from 1358 by the Habsburg rulers of the Archduchy of Austria, and later by all senior members of that dynasty. It denoted a rank within the former Holy Roman Empire, which was below that of Emperor and King, and roughly equal to Grand Duke. Though in modern times within the Empire, the rank of Arch Duke is below that of a Grand Duke by a few leagues. Reaching past Arch Duke is quite a serious step in the ladder of nobility to take. Arch Dukes wield an impressive feat of power and politcal intrigue within the Royal Court.

<!-- ==== Grand Duke/Grand Duchess ==== --> (Level 6 Psychic)
Grand Duke is an Empire hereditary title, used either by certain monarchs or by members of certain monarchs' families. In status, a Grand Duke traditionally ranks in order of precedence below a king or prince, but above the rest of the high nobility. Grand Dukes are some of the most important people in the Royal Court. Even so much as to be more important then that of Princes or Kings, as they usually tend to care very little about the Royal Court and focus more onto themselves. Grand Dukes are often ultra rich, and sometimes incredibly powerful war hardened war hawks, and play the political game with razor sharp precision.

<!-- ==== Empire Titles - Royal Nobility ==== -->
---------- 150 Permit Points Per Title ----------

<!-- ==== Prince/Princess ==== --> (Level 6 Psychic)
Whereas (generally) the title of “Prince” requires royal blood, the titles of regular high nobility do not. In order to become a Prince/Princess, one must overcome many obstacles and prove themselves worthy of the position in great detail. Kings, Consuls, and Viceroys all have the ability to annoint a Prince, which then gives said individuals access to the Royal Nobility titles they themselves hold. A lot of Princes will usually be very content with their ultra luxurious lifestyles. To have made it this far, either by constant strain and dedication or to recieve the rank through noble birth, a Prince/Princess truly want for nothing. There is nothing that is out of their reach, aside from of course, the ever growing want and lust for power. Higher levels of nobility. Always the want for more attention from those above them, and their positions themself.

<!-- ==== Crown Prince/Crown Princess ==== --> (Level 6 Psychic)
A Crown Prince is the heir apparent to the throne in a royal or imperial monarchy. Though in the case of the Empire, it is simply a step up above a regular peerage of Prince, and a single step down from that of a King/Queen.

<!-- ==== King/Queen ==== --> (Level 6 Psychic)
In classical European feudalism, the title of king as the ruler of a kingdom is understood to be the highest rank in the feudal order, potentially subject, at least nominally, only to an emperor. In the case of the Empire, the Kings and Queens are subject to the Royal Courts of the Viceroys of their area they are assigned. Kings usually rule with freedom and autonomy but give substantial kickback to their Viceroy overlords in the peerage system of the Empire.

<!-- ==== Empire Titles - Ultra Royal Nobility ==== -->
---------- 200 Permit Points Per Title ----------

<!-- ==== Consul ==== --> (Level 6 Psychic)
The Imperial title of consul is ultimately a sub level to a Viceroy. Acting mostly as an advisor in some cases to the overall management of a Viceroy's realm. At war, a consul can usually field an army-sized force of multiple divisions, supported by several fleets. Some command from a super-capital ship or control space-based megastructures. Not all Consul's choose to server a Viceroy directly, and choose simply to live within their own sphere of influence, but as with the Empires system of peerage, it is usually quite lucrative and filled with enticement of authority that prompt a Consul to swoop into a Viceroy's Royal Court and proceed. In terms, they usually directly join the Royal Court of a Viceroy, but as will all nobility in the Empire's peerage system, they almost always actively participate within the Empires Grand Royal Court of the Emperor.

<!-- ==== Viceroy ==== --> (Level 6 Psychic)
A viceroy is an official who runs a polity in the name of and as the representative of the monarch of the territory. Usually in the Empire's case in the name of a ruling Stellarch. The term derives from the Latin prefix vice-, meaning "in the place of" and the French word roy, meaning "king". Upon reaching the rank of Viceroy they can as with all other ranks of peerage decide to be active within an upwards ranked court of influence, or participate within just their own realm or Royal Court, and maintain a standing within the Emperors Grand Royal Court. Most Viceroys however will remain quite autonomous even under the ruling of a Stellarch above them.

<!-- ==== Stellarch ==== --> (Level 6 Psychic)
The Imperial title of stellarch represents dominion over an entire star system.\n\nIn the Empire, since interstellar travel times are years long, stellarchs rule their systems with a great degree of independence. They each swear fealty to the Emperor, but since the Emperor may be many light-years away, a stellarch may go years or decades without interacting with him.

<!-- ==== Empire Titles - Super Ultra Royal Nobility ==== -->
---------- 250 Permit Points High Chancellor ----------
---------- 300 Permit Points Emperor ----------

<!-- ==== High Chancellor ==== --> (Level 6 Psychic)
The Imperial title of High Chancellor is an incredible honor of a title to hold. Given directly by the Emperor of the Empire, it is a position usually taken almost as a side position, almost always by Stellarchs, within the Grand Royal Court of the Emperor. This position alots itself with lots of twists and turns of benefits, but ultimately finds itself to culminate into one thing. A personal high level advisor to the Emperor of the Empire. There are so few of these titles to go around, and each Emperor usually chooses different High Chancellors as they take power when a previous Emperor leaves the position. Usually that only happens, through death, but there have been a few times in the history of the Empire that through military force and politcal intrigue of the peerage, an Emperor has been overthrown via a coup. Though, this has only happened thrice within the Empires incredibly long a rich history.

<!-- ==== Emperor ==== --> (Level 6 Psychic)
The Imperial title of Emperor indicates sovereign dominion over the entire Empire, all its peoples, planets, and fleets. All other lords swear fealty to a high lord, while the Emperor swears fealty to no one. However, even the Emperor depends on the support of lower nobles to remain in power.
