1. I am going to try and make the game more historically accurate while still keeping true to the original RTW flavor AND accounting for game balance (haven't made a decision on adding or updating units yet)
2. Per the above, I am endeavoring to re-introduce the Roman Senate and 3 Roman sub-factions. I may also look into how missions are handled in order to determine if we can add missions for other factions (this may not work out due to shadow faction stuff)
In order to both add back the 4 vanilla Roman factions AND improve historical accuracy, the 4 Roman factions will be represented by Patrician families: Cornelia + Others will make up the Senate, Valeria will replace Brutii, Fabia will replace Julii, and Claudia will replace Scipii.
My logic for this... These 4 families were the most influential Patrician families during the Roman Republic.
Cornelia had twice the number of office holders of any other Patrician family, and this is why I am putting them as the head of the Senate. Also, Publius Cornelius Scipio Barbatus was Pontifix Maximus and Gnaeus Cornelius Blasio was Consul in 270 BC. (They were known for their military prowess and statesmanship)
Valeria historically performed many missions across the expanse of Rome, from waging battles against the Gallic and Etruscan peoples, to leading diplomatic missions to Greece and Egypt, which is why I positioned them in the East. (They were known to champion the causes of the plebeians)
Fabia historically performed many missions into Gallic, Etruscan, and Iberian territory, which is why I am placing them in the North. (They were known for their military prowess and cultural influence)
Claudia historically initiated the wars with Carthage, which is why I am placing them in the South. Almost every family of Rome contributed to the Punic Wars, so participation in the Punic Wars is not enough to qualify the southern position. (They were known for being prideful, classist/anti-plebeian, and disdainful of laws)
I have added the 4 vanilla Roman factions (with expanded Senate and missions) per my previous post, while still keeping the civil war mechanic for everyone except the SPQR faction. In my tests, this division of labor allows Rome to expand better.
I have also made various graphics improvements (such as with banners and maps), more relevant campaign, building, and culture descriptions (Italic and Balkan and Barbarian cultures were missing building descriptions).
And finally, fixed various localization and scripting issues that were causing errors to trigger from time to time in the original Boicote version.
Why release the mod on the nexus instead of on the steam workshop?
Two, I don't receive any financial incentives for uploading the mod here on Steam. I have uploaded mods on Steam, Moddb, Nexusmods, and others, and currently Nexusmods at least gives mod creators virtual points that can be used to buy things on their site.
-Added 2 new factions (Dardanian Kingdom and Samnites)
-Added 3 new regions (Corsica, Samnium, and Dardania)
-Added 80+ characters to various factions
-Added ethnic variation for 20 factions
-Added 100 campaign descriptions
-Tweaked unit morale across the board (just by 1 point for now - testing battle realism)
-Updated hundreds of settlements and characters (corrected names/traits/details)
-Did a lot of localization, fixes, and cleanup
-Improved banner graphics for the Roman and newly added factions
-Added a queue of Senate missions to each Roman faction that will result in a Triumph when successfully followed (Fabians securing Northern Italy, Valerians eliminating Macedon, Claudians securing Carthage)
-Tweaked unit morale across the board (just by 1 point for now - testing battle realism)
-Updated traits/ancillaries to account for senate (electability) bonuses
-New faction (Picentini)
-12 new regions (Mainly in Greece - Argolis, Messenia, Arcadia, Boeotia, etc)
-Battle AI has been improved with 4 new Battle AI personalities (Roman - will march and fight as one army in formations, Greek - will use extended lines and engage cautiously, Barbarian - will mass and charge and try to outflank/ambush, Scythian - will keep distance and use skirmish/flank tactics)
-More customized Campaign AI for various factions
-Way more historical accuracy
-Fixed various bits here and there
I had hidden the mod earlier due to a small error that neutralized campaign AI, which is now fixed.
The new version is not save compatible so I'd hold off on using it. (But the new updates are awesomeee)
I hope you enjoy your campaign!
I was wondering if you have plans on any sort of buildings that allow you to recruit local units at the cost of no culture conversion or anything?
Also, maybe making a few more celtic factions into the type that migrate.
Also, since the Spanish celtic factions don't have anything from a level three archery range, is there a reason to keep it?
I have been debating adding units in the same style as boicote (recycling existing units), I will check the lvl 3 archery range..., I will also consider the horde concept with factions and will test the Senate missions bit. I think I may have added too many missions on the front-load on accident.
As for the excessive Roman generals (each Roman faction has 5-6, and the SPQR have 15). I added the historically relevant characters for each faction so far. I like to think of it like this...
1. If it's too easy for one Roman faction, it could be a potential challenge to take on the other Roman factions later.
2. In the latest version, I added a lot more characters to the Greeks/Macedon, and more troops to Carthage, which should contribute a greater challenge to Roman players.
3. I was trying to boost the AI some. Historically, Rome expanded in all directions for the next 200 years on a pretty steady pace. In my AI only test runs, I see pretty interesting results.
I have changed it so that the archery range now allows you to recruit the same units with +4 experience (1 silver chevron).
This is fixed in the new version.
Uploading the changes now, will be version 1.5.
The next big feature update I intend to include more scripted events like the Social War, Punic Wars, etc.
