FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions
1) I'm crashing on Startup! Why is this happening?

There could be a few possible explanations for this.

a) You did not follow the installation instructions on the submods Workshop description page. This submod does not contain the entirety of Remake's files and will crash if it's not enabled at the same time as it. I will not post the entirety of Remake's files since I consider that to be a form of mod piracy.

b) The submod could be out of date. Look at the EaW Remake Workshop page to see what version number they're on and what date it came out on- I'm one man and it can sometimes be a few days to rush a hotfix for it.

2) My mod isn't updating even though I see a new patch out! What gives?

I recommend unsubscribing from the submod, then restarting Steam. After it boots back up, resubscribe to the Submod.
In fringe cases, it can be helpful to do the same for the base mod/EaW Remake alongside the submod.

3) You've updated the mod, CanadaMan. Will my saves still work?

That depends on the levels of changes, so check the patch notes on Steam if you're curious.
If you're in the middle of a Galactic Conquest campaign that you're having a blast with, I recommend making a local copy of EaW Remake and the submod. This is done by placing Empire at War Remake in the mod folder in Program Files, then the submod on top of it to overwrite files. It'll give you a stable environment to finish out a game.

As a general rule, it's probably okay if I mark in the patch notes as [MINOR] but will likely run into problems with any updates that I've marked as [MAJOR]

4) Can you add more ships to this?

This is currently restricted by the material that's in the base Remake and assets that are provided to me. I'm happy to say that I've already included a few Submod exclusive ships and heroes!

5) Can you enable the other minor factions?

Man, it's quite a bit of work just to get these two factions in and they're some of the most fleshed out. Let me get these two up to a polished state and then we can consider it down the road. But I'm just one man- if you have some basic coding knowledge and some time on your hands, take a look at the files in this mod and try using it as a framework to enabling other factions. I'll answer questions if I'm free.


6) Why are all 5 factions not displaying/"I can't see the Republic"?

This is a display bug that I can't replicate on my end, but there's a workaround:
When you open the faction selection box, hold down the left mouse button and then scroll down. It should scroll down so you can select any faction out of view.

Note that it would also display factions that are supposed to be unplayable and lack most of the resources to be playable/viable.

7) Why can't I build my ground units?/How do I build ground units?

Let's say you just conquered a planet and it doesn't have any ground buildings at all.

A) You'd build an Outpost

B) The option for a "Republic Ground Base" appears, so you'd build that

C) Depending on the Tech level, you'd have a few options on what to build next
C1) a Barracks/Droid Foundry
C2) a Hangar
C3) a Standard Factory

D) If you build a Standard Factory, you'll now have additional options
D1) The Specialized Factory
D2) The Advanced Factory

E) So you won't be able to produce all your units from one planet. It's part of why your starting worlds are important. Additionally, they can give you earlier access to Commando Units.

8) Are you going to make the Providence Dreadnought and Recusant Dreadnought buildable?

No. I have a few reasons for this, but ultimately it comes down to me thinking it's a lazy design. Upscaling a ship is the laziest visual way to show a heavier variant of it. I ran into a similar debate when I led Sins of the Prophets concerning the Covenant Supercarrier.

Some heroes will have access to Dreadnoughts (like Admiral Trench), but it'll be at my discretion and will be done very sparingly. I hope to include new designs for the CIS and Republic for high-end buildable dreadnoughts. Details will be released as they're developed.
