Before I came up with FA I started out with plans to build a far larger mod. Even for Fantastic Ancients there were many more ideas I'd have liked to incorporate--reducing the cost of buildings for example. But this mod has already taken me about 6 weeks, not to mention the time I spent working on the smaller mods I'd already made that are included in FA. And the more changes you make, the more building and testing and balancing--and time--that's needed to get it all working right. Sometimes you just have to know when something is good enough. Fantastic Ancients isn't perfect, but I think it's very fun and stands on its own, serving as a good showcase for many of the things I'd like to do with a larger mod.

But I still hope to create a full overhaul mod.

While FA is basically just an overhaul of the Ancient Era, I'd like to overhaul the whole game. I don't know how long it might take me to finish my bigger mod, but the more people that like FA, and the more people that would be able to help out, the more likely I am to get that bigger mod finished.

Of my previous mods, most were only subscribed to a few dozen times, and even my most popular mod so far, Iconian's Rivers Yield More Food, has only 203 subscriptions. I suppose it may be that's just an indication that people don't like my mods that much. But I've also kind of seen it on Civfanatics as well: while most of my posts around a year ago in Civ 5's Creation and Customization forum on Civfanatics got a lot of good and helpful responses, most of my posts this year have gotten hardly any response at all. It feels like the mood is just a lot quieter. Perhaps that's just an indication of how much has changed in the last year.

So before I put a bunch of time and energy into making a big mod, how much do people really care about this 12-year-old game at this point? Is the Civ 5 modding scene kind of done at this point?

With Fantastic Ancients, I guess I'll find out.

In any case, if you do like FA or the ideas behind it I hope you'll let me know below. The more interest there is, the faster I'll try to get my future mod done.

And in particular, I'm hoping to join forces with other modders or artists out there, so if you think you might like to help then by all means please let me know.

And even if you don't think you can contribute, I'd still like to hear suggestions about other mods that might be helpful to incorporate into my future mod. I've used some of the mods from the workshop, but I only have so much time to sort through or play them. If any of you have suggestions about what other mods might integrate well, either with Fantastic Ancients or a larger expansion, please let me know below.
