Please Don't Feed The Zombies
Horde Settings
So I have been playing with this mod for a bit. I am not quite sure, figured I would ask to see if anyone else is experiencing this or if I am going mad in a sense. Does this mod summon zombies? I have seen zombies come out of tree lines which very quickly build into hordes of 100-200. I love this mod a ton and the elements of it, amassing 3-4 worlds while trying different settings, which lead to 5-8 hours of play testing. I do not know if I could continue to run it. The hordes seem to manifest and only grow stronger as you try to stop them. I am just not used to the zombies actually being "Coordinated" however, does anyone else seem to encounter this? Also, Mr.Author, if you have some clarification, that would be wonderful. I apologize if this idea is all mixed up.

There is no code in this mod that generates zombies. It uses the same "noise" system vanilla meta events do to move zombies around. There could potentially be a bug in that system, but if it is, it's not the mod's fault.

There is no cap on how loud Please Feed's noise can be, no diminishing returns to slow the radius growing. The noise grows by the same amount each corpse. In default settings three corpses together can summon zombies within 60 tiles (IIRC), which is huge, but every corpse after is another 20 tiles. Shotguns in brita's gun mod are 70 range. The author said they would like to implement new options when they get time, but they're busy with contract work atm.

The best success I've had in this mod is carrying a shovel 24/7, preparing graves before a fight and immediately burying corpses afterwards. If I don't finish fast enough and new zombies start coming in, I just leave immediately, it will only get worse.

Do you know if the skeletons add to the “noise”. I’m trying to adjust the time for them to eat. I like the idea that just corpses laying around will start to attract and am trying to play with the numbers a bit to see if I can have it be slightly more friendly. I’ve got it down to about 2 in game hours for them to eat a corpse.

I’m also using it in conjunction with reanimator so if they don’t get eaten or buried within the first 3 days they come back.

That's a really good question. Looking at the code, skeletons don't add to the "noise" range and they can't generate a horde.

I didn't understand if the mod is limited to attracting zombies nearby or generates horde

It doesn't make new zombies, it pulls existing zombies.

The mod author said that the pull range increases much faster than they intended and will fix it when they can. I would play with hordes disabled in the meanwhile unless you like suffering.

actually I'm finding big difficulties lately XD

I was trying to use that mod on my server and im almost sure it is spawning zombies + pulling zombies form humongus range (10 corpses x 20 default tiles = 200 tiles). I was witnes by myslelf when i cleared a road from zombies ( lets sa 30 of them) and i wanted to pick up one thing from zombie. So i turned around like 360deg. and then i clicked to move item to backpack. Nearest forest tiles was around 15 tiles from me and i was on open terrain so no visual problems. When my character grabbed item and stand up i had like 10 zombies around me in different range from 1 to 10 tiles. It is impossible to shambling zombie to move that fast to suprise me that way so it had to be spawn. Beside most of my server players experienced multiply problems with zombie counts even if i changed corpse wieght to 3 poins so it was 3xcorpse radius and we where living in forest near river (so 180 degree was out of zombies coz of water - they still come from that side). So.... i would love to see that mod working that way, but with some boundries like max distance or something coz it can kill server fast and its hard to control in that shape. (sadly)

I realise this mod *shouldn't* create zombies based on the creator's comments, but I'm firmly in the "this is DEFINITELY creating zombies" camp lol.

I'm 100% certain that this mod does in-fact create zombies, even if it isn't intended. Yesterday whilst playing with double pop, we watched zombies spawn next to us in an open field with a few hundred bodies on the ground.

Love the idea, hate the mechanism.. too many zombies are attracted by the noise of the feast. Must be a shorter range. Waaaay shorter.

Yeah, i think this mod is unintentionally spawning zombies. I am seeing whole groups just appear in front of me even though hordes are disabled

Any update on this? Does or doesn't spawn zombies? :)
Throne 20 Oct, 2023 @ 5:57am
doesn't spawn zombies tested as a admin on a mp server

Wish I knew before I spent 3 hours clearing the perimeter of the mall building with a zombie harvester, just to make the frame rate playable, 20k kills later I realized something might be wrong. I found out when I realized eris minimap can show zombies and I saw suspiciously large group of zombies coming out of nowhere for a save with distribution disabled. Good way to complete a kill all zombies challenge though.
