If you experience crashes then you may be running low on memory.It happened to me once and as soon as i disabled from task manager programms that were eating my memory i never experienced a crash again.
Finaly another trick is the following.Untick my mod from the mod manager let the AI pass the game turn in which the crash happened and then re-enable by ticking my mod and continue your play.This annoying thing happens every 20-25 turns mabey and it takes 5 minutes to get over it.In my eyes it is still woth playing..

Although it is save game compatible It is recomended to start a new campaign to avoid disfunctions.
