I find it tedious to have to always click on area, rectangle, cross. One idea might be to have the shape be its own button as well. So in total you would have the Color Picker, Shape, plan type, etc...
The other main features i think i would like to see is the plans go away if you build over them.
Having just one color selector would of course be possible, but having the color dialog is much closer to vanilla RimWorld. You can also quickly pick a color by holding Ctrl (Default) while clicking on an already existing plan, just like in vanilla RimWorld.

Sure, that's also possible. But I liked the idea that you draw an open rectangle with walls, as most of the time you'll want to draw a room with walls. And for everything else you draw an area by default.
I'm also not sure why you always have to click on one of the shapes? You don't have to. If you're trying to build a structure or furniture, you'll also get a selection what material you want to use. If you just continue without clicking you'll get the same material you used last time. It's the same here. You can just ignore the shape selection.

I'm not sure I understand you right. But there is a option 'persistent plans' in the settings. Turn it off and your plan will disappear once a mining / construction task on this tile has been completed.
I guess i just think those buttons might have to much going on and hitting Ctrl isn't intuitive IMO. Selecting shape and individual color. I like the color picker itself and after i figured out that I had to hit Ctrl it was not to bad.
Ahhh i missed this setting(wasn't looking for it TBH). Coming from more planning i guess i just assumed the plans would disappear after you built over them. And didnt go look for a setting to account for it it.
Having a popup bar with Color + Shape selection when a planning tool is selected would be pretty cool. Alternatively, you could just have a popup bar for Color and instead of creating a Shape selection from the ground up, just integrate with Shape Designator.
Edit: I like the idea of having a kind of toolbox for planning.
