To add support to RimNauts 2 you need to allow the world object def name "RimNauts2_ObjectHolder" to be visible regardless of the tile explored

That sounds great! I was first worried there had to be a separate mod to add the satellite feature, but going off the label was a very good idea. I will let you know if anything changes in that regard.

a setting where your colonists start out knowing more about some nearby part of the world - it could be explained as experience in a tribe, or seeing the planet from orbit as a crashlander. probably wouldn't include settlements since they're tiny?

Can we try to pre-spawn random event locations so that exploration becomes much more meaningful? i.e. scattered ruins across the map

Maybe you can learn more about the map from visitors and traders, like maybe talking to a visitor may reveal a path to their base

Compatibility suggestion: Stargates!
The mod lets you construct gate sites that currently do not keep the area around them revealed.

The ability to have the fog after you choose your starting point. I sent about an hour desperately clicking around the map looking for a favorable spot.

Hey, i would like to suggest an implementation of the mod
Preemptive Strike
It adds a lot of depth to the way major events occur and it would make sense to unveal mor of the worldmap with the installation of guardtowers, drone stations and satellites.

I will consider it, but I don't personally play that mod so it may take a while before that happens.
