Appendix B: Officer Training Requirements and costs
In this appendix we explain what are the requirements for each level of Officer training. As the general rule, each rank is gated by: a certain soldier level, a certain mission count, an Ability Points cost, a GTS upgrade. There's also a config hook to add arbitrary resource cost to the training. This is not used by default. Training an officer will also reduce your monthly income, by "paying thie soldier salary". Ability points will be spent from personal soldier AP if possible, but will use XCOM AP if necessary. If the training is cancelled, the AP is refunded directly to the soldier (so the XCOM AP is not refunded). As usual, all of the numbers are configurable, see XComAbiziOTS.ini for more details, and XComStrategyTuning.ini for the costs of the GTS unlocks.

On all difficulties below legend, the numbers written here for mission requirement, AP cost, salary, and training duration should be multiplied by 0.66 (further rounded down).

Preliminaries
To start the officer training, it is necessary to build the Guerilla Tactics School. Then one need to buy the facility upgrade, Officer Training Station. This costs 50 supplies and 1 power. This will unlock the slot to start officer training.

The numbers written here all refer to Legend difficulty. They are reduced for lower difficulties.

Each training session takes 10 days, but it can take less time if the soldier is SMORT (the number is reduced based on Combat Intelligence). See the configs for the full details.

Under preliminaries instead of SMORT do you mean smart? With just this mod do other soldiers still have officer ranks or do they have enlisted ones? I use a mod that by default gives soldiers enlisted ranks.

Yes, and the writing "SMORT" is intentional. This was a deliberate attempt at the human activity often referred to as "humor".
Not sure what "soldiers enlisted ranks" means. If you use Iridar's rank replacer, then they'll get the officer rank names from there. If not, they'll keep using the soldier class' default class names. If you're using a different mod to change rank names, then something else will happen.

Instead of lieutenant, captain, colonel...have enlisted ranks like corporal, sergeant, sergeant first class, and master sergeant.

Enlisted ranks are from E-1 to E-9

I use Iridar's rank replacer. It never made sense for all soldiers to have officer ranks.
Thanks for answering my question.

I have magnetic weapons and this mod has performed flawlessly so far. I really like how it is integrated into the campaign and introduces some more important decisions.

I'm very happy to hear. Good luck :)

This mod is truly excellent. 1. Making campaign progress via strongholds and facilities requires more planning and commitment of resources. 2. Resources are even tighter than ever. 3. The guerrilla tactics facility is even more important and the option to reduce costs of costs at the facility is made even more attractive, especially in Covert Infiltration.

Question: Proxian soldiers are robotic units. I noticed that it is possible to train them as officers.

Here is the description which does not make them 100 percent robotic.
"The mechannical form you see before you houses an alien consciousness of an extinct technologically advanced alien race, their home planet Proxima-B was wiped out by the Eldars.
In the later days of the massacre that took place, they placed their consciousness in these prototype android bodies to protect them from psionic attacks.
Escaping capture in a stolen advent ship and crash landing near a Skirmisher settlement, they were later recovered by Mox and bought to you, Shen, in the Avenger for assistance."

By default, no specific character is banned from training. Sparks, Proxians, Vipers... all eligible for officer training, unelss you disable it yourself in the configs.

I play with Covert Infiltration and it seems that there is a way to pump up the number of missions; Covert Infiltration gives far more than can actually be done. One way to increase the number of missions is to send only officers on a mission and then immediately extract.

Yes, this is true. I don't think I feel like addressing this issue. People will find ways to cheese no matter how many precautions I take against it, so I'll leave it. If people don't like how high the mission requirements are, then they can just lower them in the first place.

@LordAbizi I looked over the configuration options. Straight forward. After giving this more thought the cost of the upgrades, unless changed, also prevent rapid progression. Personally, I like the mod as designed.

@LordAbizi I do not seem to be able to promote an officer to the final rank. I have a reaper with colonel rank, 18 missions, and the final addition to the GTS, regiment officer, has been purchased, actually long ago game-wise, The reaper has 0 AP, but the XCOM AP is more than enough to cover the training. I tried in the config setting the AP requirement to zero but that had no effect.
