Solasta: Crown of the Magister

Revenge of Xarr-Zuul

I think i've messed up the quest order
Hi El Santos, i figured i'd put this here to not clog up the main discussion as well as avoid spoilers for anyone. I'm currently stuck with the quest search the woodlands, but i think i've done the quests in the wrong order.

I spoke to Amy at the inn and got her quests. So i did the one for Lady Maeve, then the missing person one for the guards, then spoke to the merchant and found the party members. Then i spoke to the duke and the lord and got the quest to search the woodlands.

I think by searching everywhere in the woods for the adventurers that i may have broken the Search the Woodlands quest. I found the tomb of Xarr-Zuul and there is talk of finding information from someone in town about how to get in, but i can't find anyone who knows anything about it.

Is there something or someone i may have missed?

Hi there, thank you for committing to my adventure and thank you for reaching out. I'm sorry you are finding yourself stuck, I have played and re-played the adventure I think more than 100 times trying to test all possible ways to 'break' the quests, but it's impossible not to miss something if you don't have a troop of testers doing the job. I know the game so well (and yet I am still having fun playing it with different parties, if I can say so myself) I may take some knowledge for granted and not realize it's not that clear for the new player. Please help me understand at exactly what point you are stuck. What does the quest 'the Cursed Woodlands' in the Journal say at this point? If you have checked the tomb's gate and had the dialogue about going back to town, the quest entry should be: 'Report Back to Korrigan' and that is what you have to do: you go back to Lord Korrigan and report what you've found, then he will tell you where to find help. If the quest is not updated in that way, then I'll need to find out why it didn't happen. Please update me about it, not only I want to help you enjoying your ride, but it's also 'professionally' important for me to prevent this from happening again.

Hi El Santos, no it doesn't say Report back to Korrigan. I did try talking to him just in case and he says i need to complete the woodlands quest. The quest itself has Go to Town stronghold (ticked), Audience with the Duke (ticked), Speak to Lord Korrigan (ticked), Explore the woods. I wonder if it's because i already cleared the woods out before i went to see the duke and the lord?

So, I think I found the issue. It does depend by the fact that you went all the way there prior to picking up the Main Quest. It's my fault, I should have imagined that someone would do that, too. So, I changed a few things in a way that it shouldn't happen again. In your case, it could be possible to save your 'broken' quest. I made some modifications so that if you go to Lord Korrigan and talk to him again, receiving the prompt that he 'has nothing to say and go back to your mission', it should (I hope) re-enable some activators near the ruins, so if you then go back there you should be able to continue your quest. I am not sure this will happen because DM has an inconsistent way to deal with updates mid-session. Some stuff gets updated, other things stay as they have been saved. I think this should work but I am not in the position to try it personally, needing to start a new game and repeat what you did. Update your version, try again and let me know if it worked. I really hope so!

Cool, thanks for that, i'll give it a go and let you know.
Ok so i loaded my save and it mentioned version 1.14 so that worked. I then went back to talk to Lord Korrigan and he said the same thing, so i went to the woodlands and to the ancient ruins. There is a gravestone either side of the doors to the ruins, one is the riddle about the 3 things, the other says to not open it basically. The activator on the left side of the double doors that mentioned the riddle and triggered the "go back to town" isn't working though. The three pillars all say the same thing about being activated and waiting in anticipation. The only other one is the one about the footsteps leading into the cave. I checked in there and nothing changed.
I remember that the dryad grove had an activator that talked about the tree, but it doesn't work since i first used it before. Was that one meant to reset?

So, basically when you enter the place where the ruins are, there's an invisible activator on the ground that resolves Step 4 of the quest (Explore the woods) By going there before having started the quest, the ground activator worked anyways, and then when you went back with the quest it wasn't working any more because you already activated it. So i changed that with an activator that appears ONLY after talking to Korrigan to pick up the quest, by modifying the value of a variable. I also added the same variable modifier on the part of dialogue saying to go back to your mission, trying to save your quest. So the problem should not happen again to someone doing the same things you did and, since this is a NEW activator, i though it would appear even on your saved game. Does it? Does it at least resolve the STEP 4?. Then you also already activated the "virtual dialogue" on the left side of the double doors and since that is a "one off" I knew it wasn't gonna work any more, either. So I added a new one (again hoping you would manage to see that, after the update) that should've appeared after you spoke again to Lord Korrigan to give you another chance. Alas, looks like it didn't work. Either the new variable or some of the activators don't appear mid-save. The 3 pillars won't do anything until you come back with the proper "keys", and the Dryad tree has nothing to do with the ruins. So, now I have no idea how else I could help you. Only one thing left to ask; when it "mentioned" version 1.1.4, are you 100% sure you chose that version on the disk and not the one on the save?

Hey, sorry to bother you again. You will see that I've updated again to version 1.1.5. I tried another way that will work well with future users not to have the same problem again and maybe could also work for you. Instead of creating a new variable that probably does not work in an already saved game, I used an already existent variable that was there before, so it could work now. If you go back into town and then return to the ruins you should find the virtual dialogue. If this also doesn't work, I am defeated. Thank you for your patience and sorry for wasting your time.

Hi, yeah i loaded 1.1.4 and yeah the quest still didn't finish step 4, but i'll give 1.1.5 and see what happens. No worries, this sort of thing has been happening to me for a long time now. I always thought i should get into software testing but then worried about angry programmers hahaha :steamhappy:

Hi again, yeah no joy, i've totally broken it i think hahaha oops. I loaded a save and made sure to click from disk for the 1.1.5 version, went to lord korrigan and triggered his dialogue, then through the courtyard, town, the woods and got the tomb door dialogue which mentions going back to see him, so that worked. But the quest didn't update and when i went back to try talking to him anyway he just repeated himself. I also tried talking to the duke just in case but no luck either.

I think i did go into the tomb of Elara before getting the quest from the duke, so if that's where one of the three things is meant to be found, that might be where i broke the questline. So yeah sorry for wasting your time.

Don't worry about doing any more, i'll restart the campaign and have another go soon. Now that i know that the Driller heavy crossbow is available, i might need to rebuild one of my characters to take advantage of it poperly anyway, muahahahaha!

Other than that, I really liked this one and I'm keen to see where it goes in future.

Hey Tarwin, sorry it didn't work out, thanks to your feedback that problem should be ironed out now, though, so thank you for your work as a 'tester'. About Elara's tomb, no, that is no problem, you can enter the tomb early and still, after you get the mission, things will appear in it that weren't there before. I've tried to anticipate this kind of things mostly, I just don't understand how I never realized about that problem with the ruins before. Again, I'm sorry that I have wasted your time because of that problem, I hope your next run will be more fun.
