I broke the Against the Scarlet Masks quest
Ok, quick recap. I was working on the Morrik Murder quest when I got to the city sewers. While there I decided to explore the sewers. You come into the sewers at the Goblins' Entrance on the East side of the sewers. I headed north to the Goblins' Den area and west through the Northern Sewer Access Passage. There you come to a set of bars that stretches across the corridor. I cast Fly on one player and he crossed over the bars and continued exploring. He initiated combat with the the Scarlet Mask group in the Underground Den area on the west side of the sewer. I then quit exploring the sewers and completed the Morrik Murder quest.

Later, I started the Against the Scarlet Masks quest. On the quest log for this quest I am showing the current objective as Infiltrate the Scarlett Masks Hideout. I have gone through and kill the Head of the Scarlet Masks down there and gotten the key to open Lady Magdel's cell. I have used the key to open her cell. I have talked with her and all she says is "Please, hurry".

So, I assume I have messed up by going in before I had the Against the Scarlet Masks quest and attacking the Scarlet Masks in the Underground Den area.

I hope this was a better job of explaining what happened.

Yes, I think I understand now. So, the Scarlett Masks quest is still stuck on ''infiltrate the hideout' even when you free Magdel, am I right? If so, I am afraid you are right about what caused the issue. You actually pinpointed a flaw that I didn't know was there, and I am sorry for that. Infact, normally you are not supposed to be able to open that 'set of bars' unless you come FROM the Scarlett Masks Den, with the proper keys. What I did not know is that those bars can be 'flown over'. I never thought of that because, you see, you are in a dungeon and there is supposed to be an 'invisible ceiling' on top of those bars. The game should not allow to fly over them. It never even came to my mind that was possible. But apparently it is. Because of what happened to you, I have now changed the bars with a proper gate that (I hope) should not be 'climbable or flyable' over. What happened to you is, you probably activated an 'area activator' that is supposed to make the quest progress. When you went back there with the quest, the activator did not work again, so yeah, I am afraid you're stuck. I am sorry about this. Thanks to your feedback I have now corrected that flaw and it will be implemented in the next update. But in your case, unless you can go back to an older save before 'flying over' the bars, I don't think there's anything we can do. I'm sorry...:steamsad:

I knew I might cause a problem when I flew over the bars. I check and see about old saves. Thanks for taking the time to check it out.

You're welcome, I wish I could do more for you...

You said you went back and protected the sewer from flying. Did you protect it from Misty Step? I never tried that spell
El Santos  [developer] 28 Mar, 2024 @ 5:41am
Well, hopefully I did, if it turns out people can fly even on top of proper doors, then I surrender :)
About Misty Step, the spell description says: Teleports you to a free cell you can see, no more than 6 cells away. So, since you can't see through a door, it should not be possible (at leas I hope so, I defintely need to check it out), while it could probably work through a grate.

I am also stuck here, but didn't fly over anything. The door is open and Lady Magdel could leave, I've killed everything in the dungeon that I can get to, all of the Scarlet Masks in the tavern above, and have no idea how to finish this. She just keeps saying "Please hurry." :(

Mmmm, it's a bit hard to help not knowing all of the circumstances. You say the door is open, What door, Magdel's prison gate? And how did you open it? Did you kill the Scarlett Masks Boss and recover the key? What does the Quest say at this point?
shawndyk 28 Apr, 2024 @ 6:29pm
Yes, the prison door is open, Magdel's just standing behind the bars next to it telling me to "Please hurry" when I talk to her. I got the key by killing the boss, and the quest says I need to locate and free Magdel. I've cleared the dungeon with the exception of 2 locked doors: 1 in the northwest near the Infested Sewers waypoint and 1 in the southeast of the Underground Den waypoint. I'd share screenshots of Magdel and the map if I knew how to attach them.

Edited to add that I opened the SE fence, but the door behind it is still locked.

From the quest status I can guess: could it be that you killed the boss, Iago Dalach, and retrieved the key, BEFORE ever talking to Magdel? Examining the questlines I just realized, by the way Dungeon Maker works, that could've messed up the questline so it doesn't update. Sorry about that oversight, I have corrected it for the next upcoming update, but until then you could fix it by going back to a previous save and talk to Magdel BEFORE you face the boss. If that is what happened of course...

Unfortunately, that's not the case. I did talk to Magdel before I killed the boss. I'll wait for the update and hope it fixes it.

By the way, this IS a fantastic adventure. My getting stuck and asking for assistance doesn't take away from the fact that I'm enjoying the module immensely. :)

Thank you for your appreciation, but still I can't justify myself for anything like this to happen, so I need to find the reason why the quest breaks and fix it. Sadly, if the problem is not what I thought it was, my fix won't help you. So what breaks the quest? You see, after you speak to Magdel and she tells you that Iago Dalach has the key, the quest should change into 'Retrieve the key from Iago Dalach' and Magdel goes into the 'Please Hurry' mode. Then when you retrieve the 'Iago's Cell Key' the quest will progress again into 'Free Magdel' and Magdel herself will change dialogue. This always worked, still works (I tested it again), so I don't understand how it won't work for you. I apologize for wasting your time, but if you could remember the exact 'chronological order' of what you did leading to this moment, I could guess some more maybe... Again, I'm really sorry...

I ended up going to an earlier save, and I think it might have been that I explored most of that sewer system prior to even receiving the quest. I started with the mansion quest (can't recall the name, but the husband died at the bottom of a forgotten basement), and when I got into that sewer, I figured I'd keep exploring while I was down there anyway. I kept going when I came up through several other zones, and had pretty well mapped the place out before I got the quest. Perhaps that threw things off? I did manage to finish though, by going back to the earlier save and this time when I came down the ladder, I didn't go right, I headed left past the trip and through the door directly to the hidden base where Magdel was being kept.

I tend to be an avid explorer, and play Solasta more for the questing than for the fighting, so it wouldn't surprise me if doing these things out of order made a big hiccup in the game. I am definitely enjoying the module though. The quest text is well written, and a huge improvement on the "dude-bro speak" I was getting in the last 2 modules I played and regret. My husband even thought it was too much! I also like that your text for quests is not gender specific, as I'm a female gamer and get tired of most DMs/creators gearing their modules towards males.

@shawndyk Hi there, thank you for your patience in answering my questions. I see, definitely something triggered during your previous exploration that messed up the quest. But it shouldn't happen. I thought I made the quests 'avid explorer' proof, because I am that kind of player too, but clearly something doesn't work in certain cases. Still I don't understand what, exactly. But from your descriptions, I have more questions than answers. For example, you said you came down to the sewers following the 'Morrik Murder' quest. Then you explored most of the sewers from there. And yeah the problem must be there, somewhere but ends don't meet. You see, entering from the Morrik House's basement should allow you to explore only the eastern bit of the old sewers. I thought I put an impassable (from that side) grate there, but then I found out people were 'flying over' it which baffled me, because, you know, there should be an invisible 'ceiling' there, but clearly the game doesn't think so. Then I changed the grate into a proper door, but still you have been able to pass. The question is: how did you go through that 'not-so-impassable door'? If it's impossible to actually stop the player from going through, I will have to review the quest itself, not counting on that door to do its job. It's a good thing that you could revert to an older save, it's a wise thing to do, but most of the people who I tried to help before never did. Still, I'm sorry that you had to do that, I hope thanks to your feedback I'll fix this for the future.

@shawndyk Oh, I forgot: obviously you don't HAVE to answer every and each question, I don't want to waste your time. If you do, I appreciate it, but don' go crazy trying to remember stuff. Play and have fun (hopefully).

@shawndyk I also want to thank you for your nice words. I also have played through some of the available user made campaigns, and although there are some that are well made, I never felt totally satisfied. Some didn't use the proper language for a fantasy setting, others didn't care about the maps being detailed and 'realistic' enough, therefore the immersion was 'off'. That's why I created this campaign: for myself, first of all, to prove that even by using limited tools like the Dungeon Maker you could create a campaign that feels professional, immersive, making sure the details made the place feel 'real' and keep the 'suspension of disbelief' working. I tried to use the proper language (changing it according to people's background) which was the thing that bothered me most in other mods. (By the way, what is too much for your husband? The language?) I mean, there's only so much you can do in a game that is mostly a strategic RPG focussing 90% on combat, but I tried my best. I hope I have been successful, and comments like yours seem to agree on that (also factoring that English is NOT my native language!). And about the quest text, that's also a choice I made for immersion, above all: not talking to the player, but more like it's the adventurers' journal, where they state what they need to do next. I take for granted that players and adventures can be of any gender, so it would not even occur to me to write text that gears towards a specific one. Again, thank you so much and have fun!
