Weapons and Armor
I have always enjoyed playing with Melee character in the base game. Equip decent armor, weapons, and as long as they are not open to alot of fre they did fairly well.

Yet with the vast choice of weapons and the sheer amount of armor and layers or armor, and shields that are now available. Is their any general advice for priorities.

In Vanilla their felt like two types of weapons. Sword and Hammer... Hammers were great against armour, and swords were great against without armor. Now theirs alot of choices. Is their any advice or Wiki or any strategies that I could read up into that might help me set some priorties?

Somewhat overwhelemd by alot of the options, any even some heavily equiped characters I get seem rather fragile.

i feel the same... i think there are waaaay too many weapon options without any meaningful changes between them just like 0.1 more dps

i just look at the dps and use what ever has highest or stick to a weapon tech tree like

Hence why I am asking? I have not been able to find any documentation. Theirs alot of RPG tropes about Spears giving more Range, Axes and Maces are better against armor. Not to mention just how useless armor feels in the game. You deck a character out, they move like a snail Only to have them dropped cause a single attack took out a leg, despite wearing multiple layers of armor. It just would be nice to have a Wiki or something or even a discussion to discuss the Pros and Cons of the weapons and armor. Much like this is for alot of other parts of Rimworld.
