What are the differences between this mod and The Langauge Overhaul?

The mods are completely different codebases, built from scratch, and not compatible. There are certain features in common, like tighter position/word order rules and (full version only) replacing entities to improve their naming scheme.
I should restate that I took a lot of inspiration from it. The original idea was to emulate/remake The Language Overhaul on the vanilla dictionary to my exacting tastes, though it's certainly grown beyond just that. There's a lot of places where I've cross-referenced our work: the idea to have X of Y names, some word choices on symbol lists, and so on.

The Language Overhaul:
  • Uses its own (~1000 words) dictionary for a more evocative and controlled dictionary, and has more freedom to add custom words when needed.
  • Must use custom Overhaul-compatible translation files. The default setup is based on historical & Tolkein languages, though they did provide a "PUrist" version modifed to work.
  • Emilovich: "if it adds new civilisations with languages, then it's likely not compatible unfortunately :( "
  • Symbol lists are focused on quality over quantity
  • Thumbnail appears to be AI-generated :steamfacepalm:

The Way the Words Work:
  • Uses the same dictionary as vanilla. All 2,196 word tokens used by vanilla are used.
  • Note: The English translations of certain words have been changed, such as "furnace" to "forge." It still counts as [WORD:FURNACE], and thus the Dwarven word is still "sarvesh".
  • Uses default translation files, unchanged. It can also use any vanilla-compatible translation - as most mods that add a new civ language are set up to rely on vanilla's dictionary. This allows for proper mod support.
  • Generally expands symbol lists, though certain expansive symbols (FLOWERY, NATURE, ARTIFICE among them) have been redesigned to fit how they're used in hardcoded ways (godly spheres, buildings)
  • Some extra entity-specific symbols specified to add specific names for guilds, wars, hospitals, etc
