Which would mean that i'd have to find some way to clean out all the "the game is now active" data inside the save file for the game to not think your loaded preset is a actually a game in progress instead of just a starting planet. It's most likely doable but it would probably take me a lot of time to figure out which ones i need to remove without causing any corrupt states.
I might have a working solution if you'd be willing to test it (in that case i'll post a link here to download a beta version of the mod). There are a myriad of things that could go wrong though so it's not something i'd like to push out to everyone currently.
The solution is that I'm wiping the player faction (all relations, pawns, settlements, etc) when you load the preset that was saved in an active game. And so far I've managed to load that preset without errors. But those are only starter saves. A preset from a longer running game is probably a bit more error prone as it might contain more edge cases that I'm currently not seeing.
I'm also experimenting with turning the player faction in the preset to a neutral faction instead (maybe where the player can choose what faction type it should become). But that was considerably harder to get running.
