STARTING UNITS

You start off with a High Cultist and two Cultists of the Deep.

GAMEPLAY FOCUS

Our High Cultist focuses on the fantasy of attracting Deep reinforcements. You expand through any sufficiently aquatic territories, building altars of the deep, supplementing income, transport, beckoning AI armies, & passive deep reinforcements, and upon descending to godhood at a temple of the deep, you strengthen your reinforcements and can signal invasions.

MOD MECHANICS

Deserted Lake Port: Ensures rituals are usable at the start, even when far from the coast or lakes. (Fixes a base game issue)

World Generation: Minimum 4 Maelstroms, Minimum 3 Temples of the Deep
(Recommended: Use the QoL Overhaul mod to improve visibility and exploration of the sea.)

Fish Food Passive Reinforcements: Fish food is passively RNG'd on every owned lake, altar of the deep, sea tile, coastal or lakeside settlements. These gradually lure RNG tier 1 deep reinforcements you can pick up. You get tier 3 reinforcements with Dagon or tier 2 reinforcements with a Disciple of Dagon.

Altar of The Deep Stupid Commander Armies: Every 6-ish turns, you may attract stupid commander armies to your owned altar of the deeps. There are 3 possible armies, The Deep Star Child, Deep Ichtyid, and Deep Pillar-led armies. You get tier 3 armies with Dagon or tier 2 with a Disciple of Dagon. They are very aggressive and will wreak havoc.

HIGH CULTIST RITUAL SCHOOL

If you've played Total Overhaul's High Cultist, many of these will be familiar.

- Level 1 -

Astrology: Read the stars to predict how they will influence summons.
Enter Maelstrom: Travel through a Maelstrom to the Plane of Water.
Induction into the Cult of Dagon: In a Temple of the Deep, become a Disciple of Dagon to unlock Tier 2 Deep reinforcements.
Eldritch Vigor: Restore the caster’s action points for gold. (Requires at least 1 action point to cast due to base game mechanics.)
Search the Deep: Reveals a large portion of the ocean, useful for locating Temples of the Deep, Maelstroms, and scouting the coast.
Build Altar of the Deep: Expands influence, recruitments, deep armies, and income. SPAM IT.
Fund Coastal Cult: Converts coastal hamlets into income and recruitment hubs. SPAM IT.
Attract Outsiders: Upgrades coastal hamlets into coastal villages for increased income and recruitments. SPAM IT.
Door of the Deep: Teleports the caster alone between Temples of the Deep, Maelstroms, or Altars of the Deep.

- Level 2 -

Passage of the Deep: Teleports the entire army between Temples of the Deep, Maelstroms, or Altars of the Deep.
Build Port HQ / Fund Piracy / Promote Coastal Trade: Improves trade income, income density, and provides citadels.

- Level 3 -

Dagon Cult Apotheosis: The Disciple of Dagon ascends to godhood. (END GOAL)
Stargate: Travel to the Void. (Fun but likely a bad idea.)

Summoning Rituals

- Level 1 -

Call of the Deep: Summons a Hybrid Cultist commander (28%) or Deep fodder (sometimes ranged).
Call Warriors of the Deep: Summons a Shambler Prince commander (25%) or Deep fodder (sometimes ranged).
Ceremony in the Deep / Contact Elder Being: Summons Deep fodder.

- Level 2 -

Contact Old Ones: Summons a Thing from Beyond or a commander (Starspawn, Basalt Princess, Basalt Prince, Yithian Sage, Yithians).
Call Army of the Deep: Summons a Shambler Prince commander (25%) and Deep fodder (always includes ranged units).
Greater Ceremony in the Deep: Summons Deep fodder.
Lesser Elder Summoning: Summons special Deep fodder.

- Level 3 -

Deep Rising: Summons an army led by a Hybrid Cultist, Basalt Prince, or Angler Queen (always includes ranged units).
Call Outer God: Summons Gods from the Void.
Elder Summoning: Summons special Deep fodder.
Call Deep Invasion: Summons the 4-Legion Invasion of the Deep from the Maelstroms. (END GOAL)
Greater Elder Summoning: Summons an army led by a Shambler Prince, Cultist of the Deep, or Disciple of Dagon.
Settle Dreamer: Summons a Dreamer.

STAR SPAWN RITUAL SCHOOL

Obtained by summoning a Starspawn commander via Contact Old Ones.

- Level 1 -

Horoscope: Spy on enemy commanders through the Void.
Call Elder Beings: Summons powerful, controllable Void fodder.
Eldritch Vigor: Restores the caster’s action points for gold. Useful for coordinating multiple horror rituals.
Door of the Deep: Teleports the caster alone between Temples of the Deep, Maelstroms, or Altars of the Deep.

- Level 2 -

Send Lesser Horror: Unleashes minor wild horrors at a target location (acts like an air strike). Slightly deviates and is not friendly. Useful for attacks or sabotage.
Passage of the Deep: Teleports the entire army between Temples of the Deep, Maelstroms, or Altars of the Deep.

- Level 3 -

Send Greater Horror: Unleashes a powerful wild horror at a target location (acts like a nuke). Deviates and is not friendly.
Send Horror Horde: Summons a horde of Greater Horrors from the Void (multiple nukes). Deviates and is not friendly. A coordinated strike can wipe out heavily fortified citadels.

SUGGESTED PLAY GUIDE

Expand aggressively. I put my starting units into two even split armies one led by the High Cultist and the other led by the two Cultists of the Deep, I expand em opposite directions down the coast line. Build Altars of the Deep. Spam Coastal Cults and Attract Outsiders. Grow your economy, pick up free units, and control hostile summon risk by summoning from your your citadels with stationary armies, use Search the Deep to find a Temple of the Deep and Maelstrom. Use passage of the deep to teleport an army from your altar of the deep to a Temple of the Deep in the ocean & become Dagon there. Finally teleport Dagon or someone to a maelstrom to call forth an Invasion. The glory of the Deep will drown elysium!
