Report a translation problem
In connection with that, I wanted to ask, do you plan on making other Civs? Or is this the project you are going to stick to for a while?
I strove to make sure everything was covered, as I feel attention to detail is what makes a nice, enjoyable, high-quality Civ.
To answer your question, I have given some thought now and then to other potential Civ ideas, and I am in the process of helping out a few other fellow mod authors with their Civs, but as of this moment, I have no plans to move on and make another Civ yet.
I feel Holo deserves my very best effort, and to that end, Holo will be my baby for a while longer. :)
I have plenty of plans to expand on the gameplay and functionality, but I wanted to get her current state into the hands of Spice and Wolf fans and such, especially since Thanksgiving was a very fitting time to release her.
Right now I'm working on getting the Extended Soundtrack ready for release, although I've run into a bit of a curious problem. I have...way more tracks available for peace than I do for war. Trying to see if I can toss some tracks around, but likely you will hear much more frequent track repetition if you decide to wage war with Holo constantly. Maybe that'll be a subtle hint that you ought to play peacefully with her, haha.
Soundtracks have been released, and reception seems to be much above my expectations.
My next task is working on the continued polish, and now that I have some time again I'll be resuming my re-reading of the light novels to facilitate this.
However, I have also begun thinking of some specific ideas for the implementation of the unique HQ's thing. I have some rough ideas posted into my CivFanatics thread, but I would also like to field some suggestions from you guys here.
Some ideas I have from my other thread are along these lines:
Anyone have any other ideas?
If anyone has any ideas or opinions, please feel free to share and discuss them either there in that thread, or here in this one. I will be checking both places fairly frequently.
Thanks!
I've done some testing, and I think I have the groundwork for the luxury resource thing.
At this point it's just planning out the effects of the various company HQ's, but it's a bit difficult to think of things that would affect meaningful change without breaking the current balance of her Civ. I also don't have all that many ideas right now to work with, which is why I've opened up discussion for others to input some ideas.
I'll not be going toward total-conversion-mod territory yet, simply because this is still my first mod, and I want to maintain as wide compatibility as I can.
Haha, that would actually be difficult to do in a balanced way. The closest I have are her Great Wolf units so far, which I've painstakingly tried to model after her.
The problem with having Holo as a unique unit is that she can be killed.. and I don't really want to see that. :/
But to avoid doing so would make her incredibly powerful compared to anyone else, and I don't want to do that either.
At best, I am working with Vice Virtuoso, who is working on his Madoka pack "Wish for the World" which grants every Civ a "Magical Girl" Hero unit, and if you run that mod alongside my Holo Civ, you will get Holo as the Hero unit, but currently uses his default Swordswoman model. I'm working to eventually have his mod load my Great Wolf model instead.
Otherwise, if you have some ideas for a Holo UU which would be balanced, I'll be glad to think them over.
Whoops, sorry for the delay in response! Been a bit busy trying to get stuff working, haha.
Thank you for your offer! I do not mind if you would like to offer to create a French translation, and I would be happy to include it if you can manage to do so (with credit being given, of course.) However, please keep in mind that I don't know any French, so I won't be able to really check on its accuracy, and I'll have to trust that it's accurate, haha.
Do let me know if you need anything, though.
If you are agree with that, send me a friend request and i will give you my internet mail adress.
I understand the limitations of translation / interpretation and the inherent issues they cause with regard to accuracy. However, rather than literal accuracy, I meant more that a line talking about Merchants probably shouldn't be translated to talking about Fish. It's obvious, of course, but as I can't really check (unless I use Google translate, which we all know is awful) I will be trusting you with it -- what is essentially my baby, this Holo Civ and its text. :P
I will send you a friend request shortly, and we can handle it from there - All the text should already be available, though, as they are simply inside an XML file in the mod's folder.
However, I will be requesting your assistance in keeping it up to date as I proceed into the beta test of the next version, which will be bringing substantial changes and new text.
I'm sorry to say, but a G&K version is impossible to do.
This Civ relies extremely heavily on the new systems (and under-the-hood code additions) introduced in BNW, and there are no suitable replacements in G&K nor Vanilla.
For one, the entire trade route and caravan system, being the central focus of this Civ, doesn't even exist in G&K. The Lua code also relies on event hooks only available in BNW. As such, it is not possible to port this Civ over to G&K or prior versions without significantly and substantially changing the very core of this Civ.
BNW (and the Civ5 Complete Edition) goes on sale very often, though. I would encourage you to try and pick it up whenever you are able, as BNW offers a vastly better selection of mod compatibility, among other things, and can regularly be purchased for $7.50 or less, with the Complete Edition only around $10-12.
