F.A.Q!

Combat Extended?
Unfortunately, no. I want to look into how to do this, although I've heard apparently the CE team patches this stuff themselves? I don't know. I'm gonna see what I can do, but for now, no CE. :(

Why is it mounted besides the wall? Why not IN the wall?
Actual reason: I dunno how to do that! ^^" - I was just recreating an old mod and staying true to form! :D

Fun silly lore reason: Wouldn't everyone and their dog just make their bases out of this stuff?! Wouldn't it be like, super duper uber overpowered? xD
Maybe one day I'll go off the rails and make a "Wall Turrets" mod, just to spite myself.
No promises. ;P

How does this version compare to the one Mlies has been updating / maintaining since 2019? Is there any reason to use this version? Are you taking down the old version?

First things first: No, the version by Mlies is not going to be taken down at my request. In fact I gave them a heads up of my intentions to make a second version and explicitly told them that they are free to continue supporting that version of the mod. If they choose to stop updating it, it is of their own free will, not because of myself.

Bouncing off of that, Mlies continuation of my old 1.0 mod is still compatible with versions 1.0 to 1.6, unlike my version which is only 1.5 and 1.6. The difference between this mod and the other version is that Mlies' version only features 5 turrets:
  • Normal Turret
  • Flame-Bullet Turret
  • Rocket Turret
  • Minigun Turret
  • Stun Turret

This version features new turrets (See mod page) as well as new balancing in regards to when you can unlock different turrets, and how they perform in combat.

Whilst I created the textures for all the first version (Which lets be frank: They weren't the best), and the code for the first 4 (Mlies made the mechanics behind the stun turret, I just made the textures!), I felt like it was easier for me to start from scratch, re-learn everything, get proper textures like this one, and just generally make a better version of my previous mod. Not to mention... I was kind of a ♥♥♥♥ for some reason back in 2019. To this day I really don't know why. I cringe looking back at how strangely hostile I was.

If you still want to use the old version that Mlie's been updating over this... You absolutely can! And I even encourage you too if you don't like this version, I promise I won't get upset, there's a reason why I didn't tell Mlie to take the version they're updating offline, because I recognise people still want to use it.

Why couldn't you have just updated the first version?
It felt tainted by my past actions. I was 19 when I first made that mod, I was dumb, naive, still in college at the time, and for some reason had a strange ego about the mod. Also trying to update an old mod like that without knowing what you're doing, especially when there are C# elements in there (In my case: I have 0 programming knowledge), I was just like "what.", so... Put simply, it felt less hassle to make an entirely new mod, and just leave the old one up for legacy reasons.

I would like to use the old textures still!
Huh...? I mean, okay, if for some reason you really love my old janky artwork from 2019, you can, I left the old textures in as legacy, but you'll need to go the files and do some renaming. Just keep in mind I didn't make new textures with the old 'style' so there's only the original 4 (Or 5. I don't think though I included the stun turret that I made for Mlie)

Can I use these on Odyssey Gravships without gravship substructures underneath?
Surprisingly, yes! I didn't even really think about this till I got curious, just keep in mind that:
  • The turrets + base will vanish when the ship takes off / is landing (My lore explanation is the turret recede inside the ship during take off for protection)
  • The bases themselves may look a little unflush on the gravship walls, this mod was made just a couple days before and during Odyssey's release, and I'd have no idea how to make it fit on properly.
  • Ludeon probably didn't expect someone to do something like this, so the balance could be way off!
If you're willing to deal with it besides that then... Go for it!
