In case anyone is still wondering, you set up a custom single player game, then in the rules you select "scenario" and for the scenario you select the "American Civil War 1.2" option. It should then set you as the confederates by default and have Lincoln and the Indians controlled by the computer. If you want to play as Lincoln against the confederates, simply change who is controlled by the computer and who is controlled by the human.
