[Legacy] Conveyor Hinges - transfer items flexibly
Mr. Damocles 12 Jan, 2020 @ 10:42pm
Strength and Grid interaction issues?
Digi are you still working on this mod?
The Hinges themselves seem like they don't have enough strength on gravity planets.

Another issue I'm having with them was trying to use them as suspension for Wheels, I made a sweet design for a 6 wheel offroader, and I can't get any interaction between the wheels and the hinges.

I use 45 and -45 degree offsets, with and without piston extenders, and then put vanilla wheels on them, and I ended up having to use thrusters to get it to move, but other than that I couldn't steer nor control the wheels when there is a hinge between the main body of my ship and the wheel.

Would love to hear if there is a fix possible, or a workaround.

Thx, your mods make SE worth playing btw.

Their strength is exactly the same as vanilla rotors, and physical constraints in general are affected by mass, I think the more mass you give it on the top grid the stronger it gets.
If you have multiple connections then the middle connection(s) need more mass.

Suspension wheels can't be controlled (in vanilla) through subgrids, that happens with vanilla rotors/pistons too.

I dunno why you're expecting majorly different behavior from these compared to vanilla rotors xD

There are PB scripts and probably mods too to allow controlling suspension wheels that are on subgrids.
The PB script that I know of: https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1445055239

Thanks for the response Digi, I didn't know there was any issue with vanilla wheels behaving this way on subgrids.

I haven't played SE for longer than a year, figured Keen would have this stuff figured out by now.

I just wish Keen would just fix things like this so the game actually just... worked :)

One thing that does seem to work, Drills and tools work fine on rotor subgrids, maybe there is a code tag that would allow for a fix? Since your hinges are based on the Rotor code right?

These are rotors and behave exactly like them, this mod only changes the mounting perspective which you can do with vanilla rotors too by mounting them sideways, but takes more space... and significantly more space if you want conveyor transport too.

There's no tag to allow suspension to work through it, nor deny ship tools to work. It's just how they designed tools/suspensions to work in relation to attached grids regardless of what blocks you use to attach them.

Oh well, either way thanks for your time Digi, hope it gets fixed eventually.
I'll try that script mod though, thanks again.
