Future of Hound Companion! ^_^
First off, you guys rock. I had this up three days and it's already got 200 subscribers, just thanks! I'm rather happy with the hounds in general, and I've decided to work on upgrading this mod some to make it have just a bit more content than it has. And I've decided to ask you all for suggestions! Can't promise I'll add everything you suggest, but I'll definitely read through them all. So yeah, let me know if there's anything you think would be a cool addition! ^_^

As a start, I've stopped being kind of selfish and allowed all characters to transform their puppies. This was a trait exclusive to my custom Poly character (Who starts with a custom pet hound named Kiwi, which this mod was actually based on) but I've unlocked the little door that lets anyone use it so you're free to play whoever you want and still be able to have a colorful puppy army! Red gems make them angry and more offensive, blue gems make them chill out and more defensive. (They still attack fairly aggressively, but they have stronger healing.)

I'm already planning on making a super secret special case for the hounds that'll have you wanting to keep at least one of your puppies in it's normal form. It'll be interesting to see who figures out what the little surprise is first. ;P

e/ Nearly 700 subscribers in around a week and a half. Just wow. <3

You rock for making this wonderful mod!

My suggestions:
- Fire/Ice Hound options
- Characters allowed to give hounds a custom name
- Allowing the hounds to only follow the character who created it
- Feeding them to recover their health instead of auto recovery
- Hound manure after feeding them
- Sleeping at night unless player is attacked

Perhaps a stay command. Sometimes if I'm planting or buiding walls my hound companion gets in the way. I also really like the suggestion about sleeping at night unless attacked.

-Fire/Ice hounds are already a thing, I just updated it last night before this thread went up. Feed the hounds a red/blue gem to get them to transform. Red makes their attack stronger, blue makes them heal faster.
-I'm going to give them a list of random names to choose from already, I'll see about adding a special case to make it certain characters though.
-Haven't tried it, but I think you can heal them with healing salves/honey poultices. But if you've looked at it heal with the health display mod, you'll see they don't really need to be healed unless you're fighting something REALLY nasty like a giant or bee swarm. Other than that I've never had them die. Just make sure to give them some time between fights to heal up and you should be fine, alternately go for blue!
-Doggie treats! The collar just summons them from another world, they like people so they follow you around. Give a dog a treat, and it'll follow you for life! Shall definitely set this up when I get a chance.
-Poop OP pls nerf. Just pen a Koala. Or go feed a pig. :P
-Maybe. I left it so it doesn't sleep so that people who want to explore at night can do that. To make it sleep I'd have to rewrite their brains which I haven't touched in quite a long time. I'll see, if people like the idea then I'll go ahead and go through the extra effort to let it sleep at night while in light. (Main issue is making it only sleep in the light, not sure how to check for that...)

Yeah, they do like to be pretty close. You could always let someone else borrow the puppy while doing basework, or walk towards/away from them to get them to move. Not really sure of a good way to get them to sit. Would an interdimensional puppy even want to just sit? No idea what to use as the command honestly.

Not sure if you still look at this thread but im gonna give my 2 cents anyway on recommendations, perhaps for more variety with the hounds, more types could be added, such as giving one a green gem could create a earth hound, resulting in a much larger amount of hp then other hounds and more hp regen, but they have far lower damage, attack speed, and movespeed. and for the purple gem the hound could become faster, do more damage, attack faster but have lower hp and hp regen.

My 2 cents. give hounds more personality. changing the color/stats is fine.. but if there was a way to make hounds sleep (like the sleeping hound set piece), that would be awesome.

The problem with the other gems is how rare they are in the base game. I try to balance my mods around the user not having access to any other mods as far as crafting/resource use goes, so the only time a player would ever see a special hound like that would be if they kill a dragonfly. I do have a plan for the purple gem though, since that's easily farmed through ice/fire hounds.

I have a different idea for the green gem, what about it turns them into forest hound. Their total health goes down, not as much as the shadow hound tho and their health regen stays the same. Their speed would increase, but their combat abilities would decrease. But mostly they'd b foragers/scouts. As in they'd bring u things like a catcoon does, but (& idk if this is possible to do) they wouldn't fight as much &/or even avoid it maybe. But the foraging thing would give it the possibility of them bringing a replacement gem for the one u used on them, even if it was a rare chance. Idk how using the gem on them would b, just giving them it or using it in an item or something. That'd b up to u.

That actually does sound pretty cool to have a forager, though a hound might not be the best for it. Perhaps the forest hound doesn't scare away prey to make it easier to hunt food or some such. Or given it's a scout perhaps it could increase your movement speed somehow. Actually not sure if that one is possible, but oh well. Green gems are rare, so the reward should be higher than the others if I do add something to that.

If you don't hit your friend, the hounds will never just attack them. They're fairly well-trained. If your friend decides to smack one it's going to bite back though.

id like to breed my puupies, i have 6 2 ice 4 fire and to breed them would be nice, i only have 3 left fire 2 and ice 1. also give the puppoies a sanity auro, a good one like +40 sanity per min, alow them to becaome vargs, the giant hounds, like ice vargs, and fire wargs.

I have new hound ideas, if you read my comment you know some stuff i want, now i would like some other hounds, yellow gem, holy hound, it could be have insane regen, almost no health and can be like a scout, orange gem makes either a magic hound which has a magic ranged attack or it can make wargs, of all kinds, scout warg that spawns scouts on hit and etc. so yeah id like the new hounds, also, are my hounds suppose to auto attack pigmen or is my game glitching?

Making them grow into wargs would be overpowered and awkward. They'd be a huge follower that would mainly get in the way and having them spawn more hounds would just break anything resembling balance.

There sort of is a 'yellow' hound since they can become a golden hound. Sort of a secret how to get it though...A ranged version might be interesting to do though. For them attacking pigmen, they aren't supposed to attack anything unless either you attack an enemy or an enemy attacks you.

Also I'm working on puppies. ;P
