What about an expanded backwards timeline too?
Would you be willing to expand the timeline to roughly 1 AD to 2016? Or maybe help with one?

Due to engine limitations it's easier to have separate mods for different time periods. I'd like to make it go a bit further back - it started 1900-2015, now it's 1815-2016, and I'd like it to go to 1648-2016 (from Peace of Westphalia onwards) at last if I can find time for it, but I doubt it'll go as far back as 1 AD.

actually would prefer it to start at 1572 so you can play as the netherlands in their revolt and their golden age (I know it started earlier but this was around the time it got somewhat fair for the netherlands).

Well if we keep pushing it back, we may one day get it to 1453. And then we are pretty much done. But please, don't sink any more time into this then you enjoy doing. Better to have a incomplete mod that you enjoyed making then a complete one that takes away from your enjoyment of life. My opinion anyway.
