Gameplay Tips - How to Use the Mod
So this discussion answers question about how to use the mod. If you find this useful, please post a comment to let me know. Feel free to ask a question, if you don't find the answer, here. The answers to questions, below are grouped by categories--Spirit Necklaces, Shapeshifting and Summoning.

======================
New Powers and Abilities
======================

Q. So what are the new powers?
A. A quick list:
  • Dragon Skin - Same 50% chance to absorb magicka from hostile spells, but also increases your magic resistance 25%, and lasts 2 minutes, instead of 1.

  • Dragon Skin Lesser - May use once every 10 minutes. Gives you 25% chance to absorb magicka from spells and increases magic resistance 15%. Drains your stamina. Also lasts 2 minutes.

  • Warrior Spirit - Brings back the damage resistance of the Dragonskin of previous Elder Scrolls games. Resists 20% of damage from unarmed, archery and melee weapons, and it also increases stamina for 2 minutes.

  • Warrior Spirit Lesser - Resists 10% of damage from unarmed, archery and melee weapons and also increases stamina, but reduces magicka for 2 minutes.

  • Summon Spirit Brother or Sister - Conjures one of 15 new creatures, which now gives you 4 times the number of creatures you may summon! They will fight to protect you and follow you and for 24 hours, or until you dismiss them.

  • Shapeshift Into Animal - You can become one of 22 creatures you meet in the game, including Cave Trolls and Frost Trolls! Creatures you become are fully playable, with left, right, left power, right power and dual-wield attacks. They have special attack moves, causing fear, staggering, knocking down or knocking back, like the werewolf attack. They also have every idle movement in the game.

    ==============
    Spirit Necklaces
    ==============

    Q. I used the Summon Animal and Shapeshift powers, but nothing happened. Why?
    A. You must equip a Spirit Necklace before you use the powers.

    Q. How do I shapeshift into or summon the animal I want?
    A. You have to equip the necklace for that animal.

    Q. How do I get the necklaces?
    A. You make them at a forge.

    Q. What do I need to make the necklaces?
    A. An ingot (moonstone, silver or gold), a nirnroot (you know, the plants that glow and make a sound), and parts dropped from the animal you want to summon or shapeshift into.

    Q. I can buy moonstone and silver ore, but where do I get gold ore?
    A. There's a place called Left Hand Mine just outside Markarth (the city located on the west end of the map). Speak to the people there, and they will send you on a quest to clear Forsworn warriors from a gold mine down the road. If you survive the quest, you'll get more gold ore than you can carry. So bring a follower to help you carry the loot, or shapeshift into a bear to boost your carry weight! There are also mods that let you smelt gold jewelry into gold ore, which are available on Steam.

    Q. Why don't I see some necklaces at the forge, like the Troll Spirit Necklace?
    A. You must have one or both of the required Alteration and Conjuration perks before the options to make some necklaces will be visible. Perks needed for each animal:
    • No perk: Arctic (Snow) Fox, Chicken, Fox, Mountain Goat, Mudcrab, Rabbit, Skeever and Slaughterfish

    • Novice Alteration AND Conjuration: Dog, Mudcrab Chief (Large), Venomfang Skeever and Wolf (Black)

    • Apprentic Alteration AND Conjuration: Black Bear, Highland Cow, Elk, Horker, Ice Wolf, Reindeer and Timber (Red) Wolf

    • Adept Alteration OR Conjuration: Grizzly (Brown) Bear, Polar (Snow) Bear, Sabre Cat and Snowy Sabre Cat

    • Expert Alteration OR Conjuration: Cave Troll and Frost Troll

    Q. Can I find the necklaces as loot?
    A. I might add this to the mod, if enough people ask for it.

    Q. Can I get the necklaces any other way?
    A. No, unless you want to cheat. (But don't worry, Skyrim's guards if you do!) You can use the command console: Press the tilde (~) key. Type, "help spirit" without the quotation marks. Press Enter. Press the Page Up key till you see the words, "Spirit Necklace." Type, "player.additem xxxxxxxx 1" without the quotes, where xxxxxxxx is the ID number of the Spirit Necklace you want. Press the tilde key, again to close the console. The necklace should be in your inventory.

    Q. Can I make the necklaces if I'm not a Breton?
    A. No. They won't be options at the forge if you're the wrong race.

    Q. Can I unenchant the necklaces?
    A. No. They aren't enchanted.

    Q. Can I enchant the necklaces, and will the enchantment be used by the animal I become?
    A. Yes and yes.

    ============
    Shapeshifting
    ============

    Q. How do I change into an animal?
    A. Put on a Spirit Necklace made from the parts of the animal you want to change into. In the magic menu select the Shapeshift Into Animal power. Use the shout button or key to activate the power.

    Q. How long will I be an animal?
    A. Until you learn to be polite! But if you want to change back into a Breton, just press the shout button or key, again.

    Q. Can I access the menu when I'm an animal?
    A. No. It's disabled to prevent equipping spells, weapons, armor and drinking potions.

    Q. Why am I able to open doors, pick locks, pick pockets and talk with NPCs when in animal form?
    A. Just to be safe. If you couldn't do these things, it might prevent you from completing quests. But if you want to make it more realistic, don't open any doors, pick any locks or pockets, or respond to people who try to talk to you, unless it is necessary to complete a quest.

    Q. Why is my quiver of arrows dragging on the ground when I change into an animal.
    A. It's a bug I haven't fixed, yet. You should unequip arrows before you shapeshift, for now.

    Q. How do I attack as an animal?
    A. The same way you do as a person: Press the left attack, left power attack, right attack, right power attack and dual-wield buttons or keys. Each button or key has a different attack move.

    Q. Will I have special attacks as an animal?
    A. Of course! You wouldn't be as amazing if you didn't! Each animal has a chance to do special attacks with a left power, right power or dual-wield attack. Special attacks are stagger, knock down, knock back (like a werewolf attack) and cause fear. Smaller animals like a goat have a chance to only stagger. Larger animals like a cow have a chance to knock down. Even larger animals like a Grizzly Bear or Cave Troll have a chance to cause fear (foes run away) or knock back (targets go flying for several feet).

    Q. Why can't I attack as a rabbit or chicken?
    A. They have no attack animation. If you're a rabbit, maybe they won't have a holy hand grenade, and they'll be too afraid to go after you. If you're a chicken, try doing the chicken dance. Maybe foes will fall down laughing giving you time to run away!

    Q. Besides giggles and grins, is there a good reason to become a rabbit or chicken?
    A. Yes, one reason is to get into places you are too big to squeeze into as a Breton.

    Q. How do I do the other animations, and what are they?
    A. Just press the sneak button or key. Animations that will play:
    • Bear (Black, Grizzly and Polar) - roar, shake, scratch the ground and lie down
    • Chicken - dance, peck, scratch the ground and sit
    • Dog - bark, scratch, sit and lie down
    • Elk and Reindeer - call out, feed, forage, look left and look right
    • Fox (Common and Artic) and Wolf (Common, Ice and Timber) - growl and howl
    • Highland Cow - call out, forage, feed, look left, look right and lie down
    • Horker - roar, scratch, feed, look left, look right and sleep
    • Mountain Goat - call out, look left, look right, feed, chew and lie down
    • Mudcrab (Common and Chief) - threaten, feed, look left, look right and hide
    • Rabbit - stand up and lie down
    • Sabre Cat (Common and Snowy) - roar, look left, look right, sit and lie down
    • Skeever (Common and Venomfang) - sniff
    • Slaughterfish - None
    • Troll (Cave and Frost) - look left, look right, squat and scratch head

    Q. HELP! I'm being attacked and I can't stand up! What do I do?
    A. If you're sitting, squatting, lying down or sleeping, press the sneak button or key. If that doesn't make you get up, just press the jump button or key. (Jumping will get you out of any idle animation that is taking longer to play out than you want.)

    Q. Why aren't the idle animations working for me?
    A. Make sure you are not in a combat stance. Use the button or key used to sheath your weapon, then use the sneak button or key again.

    Q. I'm not in a combat stance. Why is it still not working?
    A. If NPCs are in combat with you, the non-combat idle animations will not work. Make sure there are no red dots on your heads-up display.

    Q. Why do townspeople attack me when I shapeshift?
    A. You shapeshifted into an animal that usually attacks people--such as a wolf, bear, sabre cat or troll. If you shapeshift, instead into something less threatening--like a goat, fox, cow or elk--they won't become hostile.

    Q. If I turn into a wolf, will wolves be friendly?
    A. Yes, if you shapeshift before they see you, you may hang out with them and howl at the mood as long as you want.

    Q. Why do I keep losing health and dying every time I turn into a slaughterfish?
    A. You're probably on dry land. If you start to lose health, go underwater. Your health should regenerate.

    Q. Are there any animals besides the Slaughterfish that can attack underwater?
    A. Yes, the Horker can use all attack moves underwater. They are also excellent swimmers, moving faster underwater than on land. Also, power attacks against swimming targets have a chance to cause fear.

    Q. Will you add more animals or creatures for me to change into?
    A. I might if the mod becomes popular. Please make a request!

    ===========
    Summoning
    ===========

    Q. How do I summon a spirit animal?
    A. Put on a Spirit Necklace made from the parts of the animal you want to summon. In the magic menu select the Summon Spirit Animal power. Activate the power.

    Q. I'm wearing the spirit necklace and I haven't used the power in more than one day. Why won't it work?
    A. You're probably pointing at a location too far away. The default maximum range is 25 feet. Try facing a nearby wall or large rock and then press the shout button or key. If you are on an incline, try facing uphill instead of downhill.

    Q. Will they all fight for me?
    A. Yes, all but the rabbit and chicken will fight to protect you. The goat even smashes foes with his horns.

    Q. What good are the rabbit and chicken, then?
    A. Well, in combat, if you are sneaking, foes might not notice you and chase after them when they run away. This might help you remain undetected.

    Q. What if it dies?
    A. It's a ghost, so don't worry. You may summon it once more when your Summon Animal Spirit power is available, again.

    Q. How long will the spirit animal follow me?
    A. For 24 game hours.

    Q. How do I send it away?
    A. Just take off the necklace. It will disappear the same way a summoned familiar does.

    Q. Can I tell it to wait for me?
    A. No, but I will add that feature if a few people request it.

    Q. I forgot to put the necklace on before I used the Summon power. Do I have to wait 24 hours to try again?
    A. No. The power is still active. Put the necklace on and the spirit animal will appear.

    Q. I lost my spirit animal. How do I find it?
    A. If you took your Spirit Necklace off, it disappeared. You will have to wait up to 24 game hours to summon it, again. If you still have the necklace on, it might be "stuck" somewhere. Try fast traveling to a new location or leaving a building or dungeon. If the Summon Animal Spirit power is once again available in your magic menu, it has been more than 24 game hours since you summoned it. Just summon it, again.

    ==========================
    Forsworn Armor and Weapons
    ==========================

    Q. Do I need any smithing perks to make them?
    A. No.

    Q. Can I make them if I'm not a Breton?
    A. Yes, the update for version 3.0 lets any race make and improve the new armor and weapons.

    Q. What do I need to make them?
    A. To make them all, you'll need Bear pelts and claws, deer pelts and antlers, sabre cat pelts and teeth, wolf pelts, leather straps, iron ore, firewood and human skulls. I think that's all.

    Q. What are the human skulls for and where in Oblivion do I find them?
    A. The skulls are for the Forsworn cuirasses. You need one per cuirass. There is one you can take off a skeleton on the wall of the torture room in Helgen. Do a search on one of the Skyrim wikis for locations of others. Not sure where in Oblivion you'd find them, or how to go there!

    Q. Can I improve then at a workbench or grinding stone?
    A. Yes.

    Q. What if I don't want to look like a Forsworn?
    A. Then don't wear the new armor.

    Q. Can I buy the new weapons and armor from merchants, or sell them to merchants?
    A. Buy? No. Sell? Yes.

So you're a sorrowful wizard, then?
please help. I got a blue screen in skyrim after i use one of those necklace and i dont know why,

Secret: What necklace was it? And were you summoning or shapeshifting?
sp0ckrates  [developer] 14 Sep, 2015 @ 12:36pm
Secret, are you hiding? ;)

My guess: You shapeshifted when inside a house or dungeon, and the animal you became was too large to fit in the space, so you fell through the floor, or through a wall. This would explain the blue screen. It actually happened to me a couple of years ago. I walked into a basement of a house in Morthal and fell through the floor. It's a rare glitch in the vanilla game.

Secret: Based on your info on the Comments page, my guess was wrong. The mod you mentioned creates a conflict with this one. See the Discussion page.

Any recommended classes for the diffrent races w/ this? More specifically for races like the Breton or other races more changed to be unique
sp0ckrates  [developer] 16 Sep, 2015 @ 4:28pm
TCGod: The description for each mod does a pretty good job of explaining what the mods change. There are also at least two good wikis with lots of info on the races, if you want the links. Just let me know.

My mod partner and I have spent many hundreds of hours playing TES V Skyrim with this account, a different account and on the XBox, if you want to ask questions.

There are also many players who post comments here at Steam who have played all of the Elder Scrolls games and know more than I do. I'll give you a link to a couple of good discussion forums to connect with them if you want. Just ask.

:)

Hi, my game chrashes when im opening the magic menu.

Eyegoblin: Thanks for saying. Let's narrow down the cause: First, are you subscribed to any of the other Amazing Race Tweaks mods? Second, are you subscribed to the Alternate Start Live Another Life mod? The answer to those questions will help me help you.

I'm subscribed to the mod, and i have downloaded alternate start mod threw nexus modmanager.
I also have the ordinators perk overhaul, however this didn't seem to cause problems( atleast not for the other races).

i also have quite a lot of mods. but those are mostly armors, weapons and texture mods.

Eyegoblin: So I made this mod different from the other ART! mods to see if it is compatible with Alternate Start (the others often aren't). If you haven't already, try not loading any of the other ART! mods. Also, make sure you are using the newest update of this mod--both the .ESP and the .BSA. The old .BSA will not work with the new .ESP file.
